15 Best Stardew Valley Mods You Need to Download

Updated:

If you have completed the game multiple times, we understand the urge to have something new added to the game. Mods can add so much new content but Stardew Valley mods are not like anything else. Authors do their utmost best to make the new content look as if it was there from the start. Art styles, music, and dialogues are all following the vanilla game, So don’t worry about mods looking out of place, It’s not the case today. Today we are looking at 15 Stardew Valley mods you need to download if you want something new on your farm.

The mods don’t go in any order so feel free to scroll through and look for something you might be interested in. We did try and group the mode by their type so that you will find for example different global gameplay mods or utility mods close to each other for easier navigation.

We’ve also put together a handy guide if you’re unsure how to install mods in Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley Expanded

Starting off big with the best mod there is for Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley Expanded is a fanmade expansion to the vanilla game. Even though it is fanmade it kept the style, aesthetics, and mechanics of the main game. The mod adds 27 NPCs, 50 locations, 260 character events, 23 fish, new music, questlines, and much more. With this mod, even if you are a veteran player, you will experience the magic of playing Stardew Valley for the first time.

And it works well with NPC Map Locations and Seasonal Outfits that you will find later in this list.

Ridgeside Village

There are a few Stardew Valley mods that can act as whole DLCs, and another one of them is Ridgeside Village. Take a cable car to the village to find a brand new town with all the necessary content. NPCs, items, shops, festivals, quests, marriage candidates, music, the list keeps going. Just like with any mod, this is not a canonical story and location. But the authors created the mod to perfectly fit the aesthetic of the main game in every way.

The Love of Cooking

The art of cooking. There is cooking in the vanilla Stardew Valley but with The Love of Cooking the system got completely revamped. Resprited and updated cooking menu, new recipes, crops, cooking skill and tool progression. You can even burn food. But with all those additions, the cooking is still simple and enjoyable, nothing too overwhelming. Just a balanced cooking update.

NPC Adventures

Adventuring and exploring by yourself is fine, but the more the merrier. Now you can ask the villagers of Pelican Town to follow you and go across the world with them with NPC Adventures. They can carry items, fight, provide you with buffs, and if you forget your items in their inventories, they will ship them to you by the end of the day. The mod also adds new quests for you to complete and unique dialogues for when you are completing them.

Automate

Stardew Valley mods don’t have much industriality in them, but Automate creates Industrial Craft flashbacks of good old Minecraft days. Automate is much simpler though, so don’t worry. What this mod does is allows you to automate the production of any machine by connecting it to a chest. When a machine is connected (aka placed right next to) to the chest it will automatically take the resources from the chest, process them, and put them back.

You can also advance your automated factories by connecting multiple machines to chests, using connectors to cover a larger area, and so on. Just don’t connect to the shipping bin. Or your stuff will be clipped and shipped.

Farm Extended

There are 4 different farm types each with its own purpose. The fishing farm with lots of water is great for, well, fishing, and looks beautiful but is a pain when used for anything else. But what if you want a little bit of everything with space fitted to do whatever you want? Extended farm combines all the farm types, adds a few dedicated areas for foraging and animal husbandry, and a bunch of extras. The world map is also updated to display all the new areas of the farm.

Farmhouse Basement Mod

We covered lots of mods that change the open world and your farm, but what about your farmhouse? Farmhouse Basement is a new area of your house that unlocks with the second house upgrade. There’s lots of space to place your furnaces or any sort of equipment you like. There’s also a version with a relocated bathroom so that some of the house buildings wouldn’t overlap.

Teh’s Fishing Overhaul

Fishing in Stardew Valley is pretty relaxed but this mod makes it more controllable and rewarding. With Teh’s Fishing Overhaul you can control the chances of catching fish/trash/treasure and what can you catch. There are new fish and adjusted behaviors. Finally, the perfect catch streaks increase the value of fish you can catch. Even if you are not looking to adjust catch chances this mod still has quite a few changes to make fishing more enjoyable.

NPC Map Locations

A classic but handy utility mod. We know that some of you are not fans of any sorts of cheat or info mods, sometimes it’s more interesting to deal with problems yourself and we get that. But even you can feel the pain of looking for a specific NPC all day and not being able to find them. With each NPC having their own routine that varies depending on the day it can be hard to find a person you need.

This mod updates your map with icons of each NPC and their current location. The icons work in real-time so if someone decided to suddenly go for a walk, you will see that and where they are heading.

UI Info Suite

There are many things to keep track of in Stardew Valley especially once you get to know the game well. Crops, weather, skill levels, etc. The UI Info Suite enhances your HUD with new information about your farming life. It tells you the weather for today and tomorrow, your luck, sprinkler range, crop growth time, furnace working time, worth of your items and whether they are needed for the community bundle, and much more. There is also an option of toggling some information off if you find it useless or irrelevant. Make sure to look for a new tab in the settings called “UI Info Suite”.

Lookup Anything

Another one of the Stardew Valley mods will give you advanced information about all things Stardew Valley is Lookup Anything. It’s very easy to use. Just hover over the item/object/person you want to know more about and press “F1”. This will bring a window with all the related to the subject information. If it’s an item you will find who likes this item, crafting recipes, and harvesting conditions. Or if it is a person there’ll be their preferred gifts, birthdays, and relationship levels.

Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion

Interacting with NPCs is a big part of Stardew Valley, you can even marry some of them. This mod adds a ton of new dialogue to the game. There are over 1500 new day-to-day messages with all the characters that have a heart level. And they change depending on the situation too. If there’s a festival, special day, horrible weather or you increased a heart level with them. All will change the dialogue messages of that character. And there are multiple-choice dialogue prompts too!

The mod adds lots of variety and interactions with your favorite characters without changing who the characters are and their personality. The author of the mod did their best to make new dialogues as similar as possible to the vanilla dialogues in terms of writing style. There are also translations available for German, Korean, Portuguese, Mandarin, and Russian.

Stardew Valley Anime Portraits

This mod replaces the portraits of Pelican Town villagers with anime-styled portraits. That includes both regular portraits and any variations those might have. Even if you are not a big fan of anime, you may still like this mod because some characters just look so much cooler and more charismatic.

The best part is that you can barely tell that this is a mod. The art style is identical to the original creating much more authenticity than other mods would. It feels like it’s been a farming anime all along. Mod also works with the Stardew Valley Expanded and replaces a few portraits there too.

Seasonal Outfits

Time for a wardrobe overhaul. Seasonal outfits introduces new outfits for all the villagers of Pelican Town. Seasonal outfits does not only change portraits but sprites too. There are both new and updated sprites and portraits for any occasion: seasons, indoors, outdoors, festivals, beaches, and weddings. Doesn’t make sense if you don’t wear enough layers in winter, right?

Better Artisan Good Icons

Better Artisan Good Icons is one of the smaller Stardew Valley mods that updates icons of jelly, pickles, wine, juice, and honey. With this mod, the color of the item will depend on the ingredient it was made with. For example, an apple one will be red, coconut will be white, and so on. Not only does it make your items a bit more realistic, but it’s also now easier to tell which one is which. The small icons in the top left are optional, you can disable/enable them if you’d like. Other than that this is a great quality of life mod.
