6 Games That Will be Disappointing in 2022

Updated:
STALKER 2, GSC Game World

Years from now, we won’t remember 2021 as a great game year. Of course, great games like Resident Evil Village, It Takes Two and Age of Empires IV have been released. But none of them were masterpieces to be remembered for years, as in previous years. 2022 has greater potential to achieve this. But we are afraid of some issues because we have negative expectations for some of the games that will be released this year. Here comes 6 Games That Will be Disappointing in 2022.

It is not certain that the games we will talk about in the list below will be a disappointment. But we have many reasons to think so. Lack of planning, change of development team, changes to the game concept and more. Elden Ring is gearing up to save the whole year but we’re not sure about the games below.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human, Techland

Dying Light 2 Stay Human

It is best to start the list with the game with the closest release date. Dying Light 2, which has been a long time since its announcement in 2018, will be released on February 4, 2022. So we have less than 10 days to review our expectations for the game.

There are several reasons why we think Dying Light 2 Stay Human will be disappointing. The first and most obvious is the setbacks in the development process of the game. The first release year of the game was determined as 2020, before Covid 19, this was postponed to 2021. Two more delays followed, and they were finally settled on February 4, 2022. Although the reasons for these delays are always explained as making the game better, it makes us think that the game may still need time.

Our biggest fear about the game has to do with its direct marketing. As you know, they took a step back by announcing that the game would take more than 500 hours last month. Because all the players said it was rubbish. In the past days, they made a statement such as “We have more than 40,000 conversations”. All these explanations make it feel like the game content is filled with details that practically make no sense. And this is terrible news.

Although we vote for disappointment, we cannot ignore the positive aspects. The latest gameplay videos released look pretty good. The animations are more fluid, especially compared to the first Dying Light. Whether these technical solutions reflect the true value of the game, we will see together.

Saints Row, Deep Silver Volition

Saints Row (Reboot)

Do you remember how amazing the first Saints Row was? The game, which was accused of being a GTA copy when it was released in 2011, almost managed to create its own genre with the brand new and crazy technique it brought to the gameplay. The crazy characters, extreme stories and open world were a lot of fun. The series was loved and continued with even more ridiculous games.

That’s why we have very low expectations both when the news of Saints Row’s reboot came first, and in the past 1.5 years. Although the statements made seem very promising, what we see seems to be overshadowed by the original.

A new story, crossplay co-op support, dozens of weapons and vehicles, new characters… Everything points to a new Saints Row experience. The producers say it will be “the best Saints Row game we’ve ever made”. We are not sure of it. The thing that set this series apart from GTA was that it was always crazy, that energy is not easy to find again without breaking its magic.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, GSC Game World

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl

We hope we are wrong. The first STALKER game was very important for gamers who love the genre. Its atmosphere, characters and gameplay led many games that came after it. If you think that the first game came out in 2007, it has been more than 15 years. After dozens of announcements, announcements, cancellations and delays, we are finally here. Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl will be released on April 28, 2022.

The first thing that worries us is that developers are confused with popular concepts like NFTs and Metaverse. It was announced last month that the game will have a Metaverse and NFTs will be sold. Then the players reacted so much that all plans were canceled in haste. While everyone is waiting for a great single player campaign mode, the development process for Stalker 2 is a little different.

The second thing we worry about is that the videos that are posted look too good to be true. Especially the graphics look so good that we are almost sure that the game will be downgraded when it comes out. This inevitably means disappointment. You can think the same for lights and shadows.

Because we want Stalker 2 to be great, it’s a good idea to lower our expectations to reduce the chances of disappointment. Things like the amazing open world, 120FPS support on Xbox Series X among the ones announced so far are always good news. But we’ll see how much of it will come true.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Ubisoft

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake

Our hopes for the Prince of Persia brand are almost gone. The potential of the series has already been destroyed, and we do not have a single reason to think positively about the remake project. It was announced that the project, which was announced in 2020, will be released in the 2022-23 calendar year. After four separate delays.

If the remake of 2003’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time comes out this year, it won’t be so good. At least, we have to think that way when we look at the information we have. It is obvious that Ubisoft’s main focus is not on this game. The developer team postponed the game twice, did not even give a date in the third postponement. While doing this, they said that they were working on new visuals, combat, and a new targeting system. What’s left anyway?

The biggest disappointment for us is that the series deserves a reboot as the big project, but trying to bring it back to life with a remake. If Ubisoft does not make a fifth delay in the coming days, we will play the game this year. And we will probably all be very sad together.

Skull and Bones, Ubisoft

Skull & Bones

The optimistic release date of Skull & Bones, which we have already given up, is 2022. The pirate-themed game, which started to be developed for the first time in 2014, is still not seen after seven years. Many videos and details have been released, of course, but we have little hope for the finished version. And we have many reasons for that.

The first reason we think the game will be a huge disappointment is that the executives and designers on the developer team left the project. Most recently, Antoine Henry, a 15-year employee of Ubisoft, left the company. He was a Co-Director at Henry Skull & Bones.

The game has been delayed so many times that the news is not positive at all. Skull & Bones was completely rebooted, most recently in 2020. All technical decisions made up to that time were canceled and the development process resumed. Although Ubisoft makes statements once a month that the process is going great, we are no longer so sure.

The Outlast Trials, Red Barrels

The Outlast Trials

We have serious question marks about The Outlast Trials, which is one of the games we wish to turn out well. Red Barrels, which was very successful especially with the first game Outlast, announced that they would focus on a co-op experience in the fourth game of the series. After that statement, not much came out except for a couple of videos and the whole project was silenced.

The main reason why we think we will be disappointed is the gameplay video. In the video, you can escape, set traps and throw things at enemies by helping other players. All of these techniques are far from the structure of the original games, they contain more action. This disables the sense of tension that makes Outlast so special.

Although it is expected to be released in 2021, the game has already missed that date range. We don’t have any official information other than a few rumors that it will come in 2022. What’s frightening is that the dev team isn’t revealing anything about the game that would get us excited.
