Is An AEW Video Game Being Announced Soon?

Is an AEW video game about to be announced? If you’re a fan of Kenny Omega, you know he’s a huge video game fan. Whether its retro or modern games, shooters or RPGs, Kenny plays them all, so it’s no surprise that he has been advocating for an AEW video game for a while now, even going as far as saying he’s made it his mission to bring back the Akai Engine. The Akai Engine was the game engine used for games such as WCW vs NWO Revenge and WWF No Mercy, arguably 2 of the most beloved wrestling games in history.

Yesterday, during a fan Q&A session on Twitter, Kenny was asked multiple times about an All Elite Wrestling video game, and it appears that we may be getting our wish sooner rather than later. In one tweet, he was asked if there was any news regarding the AEW video game and he replied “Coming (hopefully) soon” while another fan asked if he could talk about the game yet and he replied that he can “Almost talk about it”. This seems like official confirmation that an All Elite Wrestling video game will be coming in the future, and I would guess in either 2020 or 2021. AEW has been coming out of the gate swinging since it officially launched in 2019, and with WWE being able to produce yearly games (whether that’s good or bad is your choice; see my recent article here), it seems that it would be in the company’s best interest to get a game to market as soon as possible. Will it use the Akai Engine or, at least, a new engine modeled from it? That remains to be seen, but I could see AEW going for that retro look to appeal to more hardcore fans. This also wouldn’t be the first time Kenny Omega has appeared in a wrestling game. He also appeared in Fire Pro Wrestling World which was released in 2017.

Did you also know that Kenny’s favorite game of all time is Earthbound? Or that he plays Apex Legends almost every day? I didn’t either. Also, be sure to check out his awesome Undertale-inspired entrance he did recently where he even used Megalovina as his entrance music. You can watch the entrance below.
