July 8th will bring a new update to League of Legends, bringing a new event that seems to be another big lore heavy one. With this year’s lore being focused on Ruination, with the implementation of Viego, the Ruined King, and Gwen; we now will finally get to learn more about the Sentinels of Light, and the newest addition to them, and the league champion pool, which is Akshan.
What we know about “Akshan”
On the event page on the League of Legends website, there is this very peculiar image of Viego, which you can interact with, and upon pressing on his hand in the painting, you are lead to a music box with Viego and his lost lover, Isolde. Upon completing the puzzle, you are taken to the following screen, that welcomes a sentinel, and upon writing Akshan, you are taken to the even image depicting Viego and Thresh on one side, and seemingly, Senna, Lucian, Gwen coupled with Graves and Vayne in sentinel apparel, which is very interesting. But the most interesting bit is the unknown figure on the bottom right, and you guessed it, it’s Akshan.
Riot is taking easter eggs on their web page as a key element to teasing Akshan, on top of the aforementioned puzzle, there is a very interesting piece of information in the code of the page, which was uncovered by a YouTube channel and it says the following:
To the Sentinels— In the event of my death, I appoint Akshan as my successor, to inherit my weapon and keep Shurima protected from the forces of undeath. May you one day find us, – Shadya

This leads us to question what exactly happened to the sentinels, who is Shadya? Is there a relation between her and Urias, Lucian’s father? There are so many things to be speculated and the plot is reaching the climax in the League of Legends world. And with the newly released “Fate of Demacia” teaser, the mist has finally taken over the city made of petricite. The king’s wrath will not stop until he reaches solace amidst his grief, and Demacia will be the first to fall to his torment.
As previously teased in the 2021 champion roadmap, Akshan is going to be a mid lane marksman, and while his kit remains unknown, we know now that he is going to be built around have a “grapple”, and as Riot mentioned “will swing onto the rift”, which leads us to believe that this is going to be something similar to Camille’s “Hookshot”, a movement-based ability. He will be built with aims around playing for roaming, skirmishes, and duelling.
All in all, things are looking quite foggy in Valoran, quite literally. And with the king missing his queen, will the torment he has on his heart lead to the ravishing of many? Or will the sentinels of light emerge victorious over-literal Ruination? The answers are coming soon, and so is the mist of the shadow isles.
