Animal Crossing Is The Fastest Selling Nintendo Switch Game

Animal Crossing for the Nintendo Switch seemed to be the perfect game at the perfect time. Despite already being a popular franchise, the game was released right as the world was going into lockdown during the current coronavirus pandemic. The series is known for being one that people can easily sink hundreds if not thousands of hours into, and when people are stuck at home, that is not a bad thing.

Nintendo released its latest end-of-year earnings report which summarized the company’s sales up until the end of its fiscal year on 31st March 2020. The report shows that Animal Crossing: New Horizons had sold 11.77 million copies as of 31st March 2020. Animal Crossing was released on 20th March, meaning that over 11 million copies had been sold in just 11 days, making it the “best start ever for a Nintendo Switch title.”

The report also goes on to state the game has sold 13.41 million copies in its first six weeks on sale, meaning that sales drastically dropped off during April. But that figure already puts it at the 6th or 7th best selling Switch title. 13.41 million puts it at number 6, assuming Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! didn’t see a dramatic increase in sales during April.
