Animal Farm Game Coming To PC & Mobile In December

Published:

George Orwell’s allegorical epic has been staple reading for a lot of children over the years… Now, an Animal Farm game is coming to PC & Mobile December 10! Here’s all you need to know below…

George Orwell’s Animal Farm is an allegorical novella that tackles the events of the Russian Revolution of 1917, through to the Soviet Union, through the lens of a farm. In Animal Farm, the animals rise up against their farmer in an effort to create a society where every animal is equal, happy and free. However, this backfires when a pig named Napoleon attempts to implement a dictatorship, of sorts, amongst the animals.

It’s a fantastic novella, by any account. It’s thought provoking and complex, but written in a way that doesn’t alienate the reader by keeping the narrative compelling. Now, the Indie Collective has developed a game based on this legendary story… (They’re the team behind Reigns, so you know it’s going to be good!)

Animal Farm Game To Be Choice-Based Adventure

Animal Farm will be a choose-your-own-adventure title at it’s core. You’ll have to manage Manor Farm and guide it’s residents through a tumultuous period of animalism, subverting and sacrificing animals at will to maintain control and order.

Players will also have to bring a degree of strategy to the game. You’ll need to manage the resources Manor Farm has available alongside any defensive ventures against the humans. Each season will bring new challenges and Animal Farm will force you to adapt your strategies for each one.

There’s also going to be numerous endings and a whole load of achievements. Animal Farm will feature six destinies and eight different endings, with 48 achievements in the Farm Handbook for players to unlock.

I know I’ve done you dirty, but I’ve saved the best until last. The game is going to be narrated by Abubakar Salim! He portrayed Bayek in AC: Origins, so you know he has the talent. I think it’s safe to say this Animal Farm game is going to be insane. On the eve of the most-important U.S. Election Night in recent memory, George Orwell’s novella is more relevant than ever.

Quotes From The Minds Behind The Animal Farm Game

I have long wanted to explore how, through video gaming, we could design an experience which immerses the player in Orwell’s vision. As the project has come to fruition in 2020 it has felt increasingly vital to bring Orwell’s study of inequity, power and control to a new audience. As I watch world events unfold – Brexit, Trump, Putin, Orban, Erdogan – and see numerous leaders use tactics from the populist, nationalist playbook: it sometimes feels like Animal Farm is not fiction, but reality.

Imre Jele, Project Founder]

Animal Farm tends to be remembered for how its powerful characters destroy the truth through gaslighting, hypocrisy, corruption and greed – all distressingly recognisable to people living through the political events of 2020. But the book also says a lot about why altruistic characters support horrible outcomes, and how values like hard work, cooperation, and loyalty can be warped in obedience to unsound goals. Video games are powerful at telling stories about systems and enabling ‘what if?’ questions. My goal was to capture Orwell’s very relevant observations in a form that players can explore.
