Apple has rejected the Facebook gaming app for at least the fifth time now, according to an industry insider. Last month, Facebook submitted their latest application for the gaming app and recently received word that the app will be once again denied by Apple.
Facebook has submitted the app no fewer than five times, and each time, it has been rejected, citing its rules that prohibit apps with the “main purpose” of distributing casual games.
Facebook’s gaming app may be getting rejected because it could potentially hurt Apple’s own revenue earned from gaming apps. Gaming apps are by far the most lucrative app genre for Apple, generating a massive $15 billion last year.
Recently, the European Commission said its opened a formal antitrust investigation into Apple to determine if the terms that the company imposes on app developers violate competition rules. Margrethe Vestager, the European Commission executive vice president in charge of competition policy, said: “We need to ensure that Apple’s rules do not distort competition in markets where Apple is competing with other app developers.”
