On the back of a huge win over top team Misfits, we sat down with Astralis ADC Jeskla to hear his thoughts on the game. With this win, Astralis ensure they can still fight for a playoff spot and compete with the very best the LEC has to offer. We also looked ahead to next week’s games, where Astralis will face off against Fnatic and Rogue, and asked Jeskla how he felt about going up against some of the strongest bot lanes in the league.
Below is the transcript. In bold are our questions, while Jeskla’s are standard font.
It was such a back-and-forth game. It felt like any team could win at any time, but you got some great team fights, you played very well and then of course the back door from MagiFelix. How did today’s game feel for you?
It felt, obviously we did [make] a lot of mistakes but in general the atmosphere and communication was good. We never really gave up, and we tried different things to come back into the game. It feels really good for me to play on stage, it felt good yesterday too, I feel like I play even better on stage and feel more comfortable. It felt really good to win, I got really stressed especially with the last fight because I f**ked up and I just died instantly. I thought the game was over lost, so I got sad at that moment. But, somehow [MagiFelix] could end versus two people so, we were just really lucky today.
We were definitely on the edge of our seats, especially at the end! You guys are currently 5-6 and joint 6th with Vitality. Looking for the next couple of weeks, do you think you can contest the top 6 and look to make the playoffs?
Yeah, for sure right. I think this win was really important because it’s one of the tougher opponents. This is one of the first games we won against tougher opponents, this split and last split, so it’s like a huge win for us to make the playoffs. I think we’re on a good run right now.
I’m glad you’re feeling confident. A lot of people have said about Astralis that your early game can be a little bit weaker, and you tend to get good team fights. I’ve heard specifically on Euphoria Drakos say you are one of the best team fighting teams in the league. Is that the playstyle you’re playing around, looking for the late game and scaling, or is it something that happened naturally?
I mean for sure it wasn’t really our [idea], we practice a lot for our early game before this split, and a bit less during the split. For sure it wasn’t something we planned on or practised on, we actually want to be a strong early game team. It’s just, our early games on stage haven’t been the best, and naturally, we just became good at team fighting I would say.
I think a lot of that has been around Whiteknight on the lee sin, which really helped. Looking forward to next week, you guys have quite a tough schedule. You’re facing off against Fnatic and Rogue, so how are you feeling as a team for next week?
For sure we have our heads high, and just look to play our game. Obviously, it’s two very tough opponents, so getting a win next week would be really good for us to make the playoffs. So we just have to play our game, obviously, it is a tough week, but we just have to do our best for sure.
A final question, more specifically for you now, you’re against arguably two of the best ADCs in the league right now in Hans Same and Upset. How are you preparing personally, what do you think it’s going to take to beat them, both in the lane and as the game progresses?
I mean obviously, they are really good players, but for me personally, I just focus on myself. I’m not really scared of anyone. I think Hans Sama is really good, he stands out, but the rest of the AD carries don’t stand out. I just focus on myself and do whatever I can do. There are some strong champions they both have. I guess we will just have to see.
