BlizzCon 2021

The BlizzCon is the biggest event of Blizzard throughout the year. It is a major gathering of fans who get to see announcements of new games enjoy community events and more. But unfortunately, Blizzard announced that they’ve decided not to host BlizzCon 2021 because of pandemic concerns.

Current complexities and uncertainties are making it difficult to organize an event of such scale. As it involves a lot of partners, companies, esports teams, artists, etc.

BlizzCon usually takes place in Anaheim, which is in Orange County, California. Right now, the county is in the yellow tier, which is the least restrictive tier. Even with the county being in the light tier, there is a capacity restriction for those indoor areas that can be opened. Though the regulations are clear for now, the uncertainty of the future changes may ruin BlizzCon’s plans.

However, there will be an event of some sort in early 2022. Blizzard described it as a global event that will be a mix of online events, like in the recent BlizzConline and small in-person gatherings. There are not many other details but they will be shared soon, the official statement regarding BlizzCon 2021 can be found here.
