Another year, another Call of Duty. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War comes this year, as Treyarch will drop players into the heat of the Cold War in the 1980s. Game developers revealed the different aspects of multiplayer this evening, showing off new weapons, maps and elements in 2020’s CoD game.
David Vonderhaar opened up the broadcast by saying that when it comes to Black Ops games, they are “never quite satisfied with the status quo.” Black Ops games have generally been the strongest of the series, with the first two being widely considered in the top four CoD games.
Yet, with every change, there is good and bad. Black Ops Cold War seems to have a balance of both. The maps they showcased, Armada, Miami, Satellite, Moscow and Crossroads all look massive. I wondered if they were ground war only maps, but there didn’t seem to be enough strict game play to show it off.
The game is also going to have cross-platform and cross-generation across all modes.
Black Ops Cold War Maps
Armada is the most eye-opening map. It showcases two battleships at war with one another with zip lines between them. Players can also dive into the ocean. This map looks massive and chaotic, but definitely fresh.
Miami and Moscow both put you right in the hearts of each city. Miami has this vice-style glow to it and Moscow has this cold, grey feel to it.
Satellite and Crossroads both look like massive maps in different environments, the latter warm and dry, the former cold and wet. Satellite had vehicles that run on the snow of Uzbekistan.
Black Ops Cold War Gamemodes
The classics return in Search and Destroy, Domination, and Team Deathmatch. Control is also returning. Hardpoint is said to be getting reworked spawns, hopefully in a way that will improve upon what was happening in Modern Warfare.
VIP Escort looks like a solid new gamemode as well. Six players are dropped in on either team with one team having a VIP player. That player must stay alive with only a pistol, a smoke grenade, their team and a dream. If they reach the helicopter on the map, they win the round. The other team must eliminate the VIP to win a round.
Combined Arms Domination – 12v12 Domination with five flags spread across the map.
Perks and Create-a-Class
- Wildcards are returning in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- There are over 6 attachment options for each attachment, making a gun customizable in hundreds of ways. ]
- There are scorestreaks that keep points after death
- The ninja perk softens the noise from sprinting
- Rc-xd’s are back!
Only a very very slight part of Zombies was shown. Zombies has been a staple in Black Ops games, and Cold War should be no different.
Currently, pro players and personalities are streaming gameplay live on Twitch and YouTube (not Mixer though, haha).
