Players could drop into Verdansk today, collect codes to fire a weapon to then rush to the Stadium to get cover before it launched. This spawned the launch video for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. With gameplay captured on the PlayStation 5, fans could see the game’s reveal trailer in Warzone.
The game takes place in the heat of the Cold War in the United States of America. A potential secret could be found to aid the Americans in the political battle with Russia. The campaign mission involves fighting through various stages of the Cold War in pursuit of victory.
The trailer began with some words on the Vietnam War, showing American soldiers in the midst of battle. “This war was a lie, years of blood just to light the fuse of a secret war decades in the making,” a soldier’s voiceover says. Then there is a timeline jump from 1968 to 1981, showing former US President Ronald Reagan speaking about the Cold War.
The rest of the trailer shows the effort of CIA operatives trying to uncover secrets about Russia’s plans. Then it seems there is a movement to neutralize that threat. Overall, it looked like a great CoD trailer, and a game seeming to hit on nostalgia as well as innovate.
Yesterday, a leak said that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War would release on November 13. Along with the release date, the description and the pre-order information was also leaked. So there wasn’t a lot of new information to take away from the reveal besides the cool cinematic gameplay.
There is confirmation, of course, that a pre-order of the digital copy would grant players immediate access to a Woods Operator and Weapon Blueprint to use in Warzone. Players can get a further look at the game on September 9 with the Multiplayer Reveal event. The time for that event is still TBD
Here’s to hoping this game has more color than the soulless landscape that is Modern Warfare.
