Call of Duty: Warzone has finally been announced by Activision via this tweet:

Introducing a Game-Changing Free-to-Play Experience – Call of Duty: Warzone. A New and Massive Combat Experience with up to 150 Players from #CallofDuty #ModernWarfare is Free-to-play for Everyone. #Warzone #FreeCallofDuty

This announcement follows nearly a month of leaked screenshots, glitched lobbies, and data-mining which made Warzone more of an inevitability than anything else.

Set in the sprawling Verdansk, Call of Duty: Warzone gives everyone the chance to play as a Tier-1 Operative in an intense experience filled with non-stop action and plenty of opportunities for glory! Twitter user @Slasher has leaked an image of the map below:

Call of Duty Warzone BR will be revealed tomorrow and will likely go live to play too

according to leaks, Warzone will be Activision's F2P/standalone Battle Royale, will be cross platform between PC and consoles, and have upto 150 players per game across solos, duos, trios pic.twitter.com/e5ySdNRKGl

With Fortnite and Apex Legends both being free-to-play, Warzone puts itself in an excellent position to compete with its competition by also being free-to-play. It also offers a larger battle royale experience by having 150-player lobbies. This is more than Fortnite’s 100 and Apex’s 80.

Call of Duty: Warzone has this global release timetable.

It goes live tomorrow, March 10, at 7pm GMT (or 12pm PDT and 3pm EST.) If you’re a Modern Warfare owner, however, you can get access to Warzone a whole 4 hours earlier! But, if not, that doesn’t mean Warzone will cost you anything. It (as Activision repeatedly state in their blog article about it) will be free for everyone, no matter what. There are also a number of features which make Warzone unique…

Table of Contents

  • Chase the circle with vehicles in Call of Duty: Warzone…
  • Complete Contracts and earn cash while you survive…
  • Channel your inner Reznov and try to escape Warzone’s Gulag…

Chase the circle with vehicles in Call of Duty: Warzone…

Firstly, Warzone launches with five vehicle types available throughout Verdansk. These will range from two-seater ATVs through four-seater SUVs to helicopters. It should be noted that, despite the varying protection each vehicle offers, they all explode once their health bar is depleted. So… ss a pro-tip, it would be wise to get out if you’re taking a lot of flak.

Complete Contracts and earn cash while you survive…

Secondly, Warzone will have two game modes at launch: a standard battle-royale game mode, and Plunder. Plunder puts the focus on cash collection as opposed to survival. Cash can be looted throughout Verdansk, from the bodies of your opponents, and by completing in-match contracts.

Contracts are objective-based tasks that players can find scattered across Verdansk. The rewards you get from these vary from in-game cash to special abilities like revealing the next ring location. In-game cash, when not being the primary objective in Plunder, can be used to purchase helpful items through Buy Stations scattered across the map. This could mean buying a Killstreak, a Redeploy Token, and more! Plunder also offers players the chance to purchase a Deposit Baloon, meaning you can deposit cash and improve your score from anywhere in Verdansk.

Channel your inner Reznov and try to escape Warzone’s Gulag…

Warzone’s Gulag offers a unique respawn system to the battle royale genre. For your first death, rather than spectating the rest of your squad, you get thrown into the Gulag. Here, you fight for redeployment in a 1v1 against another fallen soldier. Only two can take to the Gulag at a time, though, so when you’re waiting, you get to watch the intense battles play out from a spectator platform on an upper floor. Who doesn’t love a bit of mid-game entertainment?

Warzone is out tomorrow, so be on the lookout for a sizeable update to Modern Warfare around release. For the full rundown, visit the Activision Blog and keep an eye on Gamezo for further updates regarding the F2P battle royale.
