League of Legends: Chovy Officially Joins Hanwha Life Esports

Hanwha Life Esports announced the signing of Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon as their starting mid laner for the 2021 season.

Chovy recently played for DRX on a one-year deal for the 2020 season. With him holding the mantle for the mid lane, DRX enjoyed a successful season, finishing at least top three in both the spring and summer split. Most notably, he and his team finished as runners-up in the summer split playoffs, losing to eventual World Champions DAMWON Gaming in a three-game sweep during Worlds 2020.

Chovy picked up two LCK Second All-Pro Team selections in his sole year with DRX. Additionally, he finished within the top three while in the running for the Split MVP award in both spring and summer.

After the conclusion of the World Championship, every member of the starting lineup–save for jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon–left DRX under the grounds of their respective contracts expiring.

He joins former DRX teammate Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, top laner Park “Morgan” Gi-tae who last played for Team WE of the LPL, and junglers Kim “Winter” Yo-han and Park “Arthur” Mi-reu as the newest members of an HLE team who has been adamant in revamping their squad after a rocky year.

HLE comes off the 2020 season as the basement dweller of the LCK, having finished last in the regular season of the summer split with a 2-16 record. In spring, they finished eighth with a 6-12 record. Save for the support position, HLE swapped players around in the remaining four roles so as to find cohesion in their lineup, which ultimately came to no avail. Since rebranding to their current name from the ROX Tigers moniker in mid-2018, HLE have never finished beyond sixth place during any regular season.
