Clear Your Vault, Transmog in Destiny 2 is Collections Based!

In the latest This Week at Bungie post, it was confirmed by Luke Smith that transmog in Destiny 2 will be based on collections and NOT based on what is inside your vault! Check out the Beyond Light Launch Trailer below as well!

Power Cap

The power grind in Destiny has changed a lot over the years, we currently have a 3-Cap system in which there is a “Soft Cap” which you will then need Powerful rewards to progress to the “Hard Cap” and then players who wish to participate in endgame activities and increase their power even further can earn Pinnacle rewards to hit the “Pinnacle Cap.” Here is the current caps in Season of Arrivals:

  • Soft Cap: 1000
  • Hard Cap: 1050
  • Pinnacle Cap: 1060

In Season of the Hunt, these caps will be raised to the following levels:

  • Soft Cap: 1200
  • Hard Cap: 1250
  • Pinnacle Cap: 1260

Bungie is also bringing the Power Level of all players up to the current Hard Cap of 1050 when Beyond Light releases.

“When you first log in next Season, all of your weapons and armor will be at 1050 Power or higher. If you have anything already over 1050 it will be unchanged, and anything under will be brought up to 1050. All new players will start at 1050 as well.”

I’m not exactly sure how I feel about this as it feels like all progress made is just being thrown out the window, but I do think that this is a good move for new players that will allow them to participate in higher level content sooner.

Collections Based Transmog

Well…time to clear out your vaults! Luke Smith has confirmed that players will not need to keep every single piece of armor that they want to utilize transmog (the ability to replace the appearance of your armor and weapons with those of other items, or to hide certain pieces of armor) as transmog will be collections based rather than vault based!

Thank you dmg, very cool. Dmg has also stated “Note: Transmog planned for a future season. Once we have a firm date, we’ll be sure as hell to let you know. Stay tuned.” I love this. Communication, when done properly, is such a wonderful way to connect developers to their playerbase, and @A_dmg04 is a phenomenal Community Manager with great communication, setting expectations and being very clear that this is not planned for a release until a later date, transmog will not be shipping with Beyond Light.

Expired Ramen Coupons

“There are other items that will be removed from your inventory at the end of Season of Arrivals. Some, like Faction Tokens, have not had a purpose in quite a while, and others, like Expired Ramen Coupons, never really had a purpose but held some sentimental value. We know that it might [be] hard to part with those, but it’s time to let them go.”

Well, myself and many others are heartbroken over the removal of certain items that are close to our hearts and hold many memories such as the Expired Ramen Coupons and Notes From Cayde, I am actually kind of relieved to finally be able to delete them now that Bungie is going to delete them anyway. Hopefully something will be added in the future to pay homage to these items (at least the Expired Ramen Coupon).

And yes…it does sting.

Instant-Summon Sparrows

Bungie is also changing the way that Sparrows work in Beyond Light. Currently, Sparrows and Ghosts have certain perks that allow Sparrows to summon instantly. The Sparrow perk is called Transmat Preloader and the Ghost perk is called Speed Demon. Starting in Beyond Light, all Sparrows will summon instantly regardless of perks/mods.

“Starting in Beyond Light all Sparrows, both Legendary and Exotic, will innately summon instantly, even without the Transmat Preloader perk. As a result, there is no need for a Ghost mod to impact this functionality, so Speed Demon was not carried forward into the new system.”

All Sparrows in collections will also be converted to this new system, so regardless of what Sparrow you choose to ride, it will summon immediately.

Well there you have it. When transmog arrives in Destiny 2, it will be based on your collections, so clear out your vault of unneeded armor, find a favorite Sparrow, and get some final memories with your Expired Ramen Coupons and Notes From Cayde before they’re deleted when Beyond Light launches on November 10!
