Codemasters Secure License For World Rally Championship Series

Starting in 2023, the World Rally Championship series of games will be handled by Codemasters. At present the WRC series is developed by Paris-based Kylotonn and published by Bigben Interactive.

Anyone that is into rally games will know that Codemasters aren’t strangers to the genre. Codemasters were known for the TOCA series in the late 90s and early 2000s as well as developing the Colin McRae Rally series, which eventually morphed into the Dirt series. In addition to the Dirt series they also make the Grid and F1 series of games and have also released other racing games such as Fuel. It’s unknown if Codemasters will be giving up any of the current series’ they develop with WRC taking their place or whether Codemasters will become the undisputed King of rally games, producing every major franchise.

F1 2020 is due to launch in July 2020 and Dirt 5 in October 2020, both by Codemasters.

What do you think about Codemasters taking over the World Rally Championship series? Let us know in the comments.
