PlayStation has revealed a new game mode coming to Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War known as Zombies Onslaught…watch the teaser for it below!
What is Zombies Onslaught?
“In Zombies Onslaught, you and one other Operator will deploy to one of several locations derived from various Multiplayer maps with your custom loadouts. These are the very same loadouts you’ll carry into traditional Zombies and Multiplayer, complete with your preferred primary weapon, whether it be an LMG, heavy-hitting sniper rifle, or other fully kitted-out tool for zombie destruction.”Credit: PlayStation Blog
The goal of Zombies Onslaught is essentially just to survive. You and your partner (only 2 player Co-Op) are confined to a specific space on the map due to a Dark Aether Orb restricting your play area, this area will be where the zombies you will be fighting will spawn. Every zombie you kill will power the Orb, killing enough zombies will move the Orb to another part of the map. Apparently players will be…inside the Orb when it moves? “While you’re inside the Orb, you won’t take Dark Aether damage from outside the specific map zone the Orb protects, helping keep players alive as they fight increasingly difficult undead enemies, with each ‘surge’ bringing more resilient, faster and deadlier zombies.” So, it seems like the area outside the Orb will act as a sort of Battle Royale zone, like the Fortnite “Storm” where players will take damage outside of the safe area of the map. Players should expect to be on the move constantly as the Orb moves from area to area on the map, so be prepared to strategize on the fly!
Zombies Onslaught will also include Elite enemies, these Elites are “more powerful adversaries compared to the regular zombified masses. However don’t count them as cannon fodder: the restricted area can bring them within arm’s length, which is all they need to bring you and your duo down.” James Mattone, Lead Writer for Activision Games Blog, suggests that players should make these Elite enemies the primary target “as you’ll receive a Bronze, Silver, or Gold ranking based on the number of Elites you and your partner can defeat.”
As shown in the image above and in a recent PlayStation Blog post, Zombies Onslaught will not be available for other platforms until November 1, 2021. This isn’t the first time in recent history that a Call of Duty game has had content temporarily locked to PlayStation players, as the Spec Ops: Survival mode for Call of Duty Modern Warfare was also restricted to PlayStation until recently when it was opened up to players on all platforms on October 1, 2020. While this is certainly disappointing to some, I can’t say that I’m all too surprised, as PlayStation has also just revealed a timed exclusive content pack for Modern Warfare, though it is questionable why they would decide to start doing more console exclusives with the increasing popularity of cross-platform play…
Will this decision to lock content behind a specific platform affect where you play Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War when it launches on all platforms on November 13? Are you looking forward to playing Zombies Onslaught on PS4 or the new PS5 or will you wait until next year when it becomes available to everyone?
