Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated games of the years. The next IP from CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher series. The game is scheduled for release on November 19th, right around the time of the next-generation launch, with the Xbox Series X launching on November 10th, and the PS5 launching on November 12th & 19th.
Today CD Projekt Red have announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will be delayed by 21 days, now scheduled for release on December 10th. In a social media post they broke the news to fans:
“Today, we’ve decided to move the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days. The new release date is December 10th.
The biggest challenge for us right now is shopping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it while work from home. We’re aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do.
Some of you might also be wondering what these words mean in the light of us saying we achieved a gold master some time ago. Passing certification, or ‘going gold’, means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all the content in it. But it doesn’t mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch.
We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you’ll fall in love with.”
This news is one that will surely disappoint many fans, but it is understandable. Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch of Xbox One, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 5, PC, and Google Stadia, so that is a lot of different platforms to release on at the same time, with each requiring their own version and optimisation. It is possible this could be the first of many games that will see similar delays as we transition into the next-generation of consoles and games are release side by side on both gens.

Cyberpunk 2077 has had a lot of road blocks when it comes to releasing the game. The game started development way back in 2012, so an 8 year development cycle. The game was originally set to release on April 16th. As the global pandemic started to loom over the world, CD Projekt Red ended up postponing the release even further, down to September 17th. Then it got delayed until November 19th, and now December 10th, hopefully this will be the final delay.
CD Projekt Red has made a big name for itself after the success of ‘The Witcher’ series. push-backs by claimed that the extra time has been used to avoid crunching and to take the extra time to ‘go through everything, balance game mechanics, and fix a lot of bugs’, with the game being announced as ‘finished’ from a content and gameplay perspective ever since June.
