DAMWON Gaming wins LCK Summer dominating DRX

Updated:

DWG destroys DRX in a 3-0 series and will qualify for Worlds as the 1st seed from the LCK. They are looking like LCK’s best shot for the championship, and no one else really comes close. DRX, on the other hand, will be Korea’s 2nd seed with the championship points while also sending Gen.G to the Regional Qualifier. With DWG reaching Worlds for the 2nd time, will we see the “scrims gods” finally ascend to glory?

Game 1

The first game was probably the closest one of the whole series. The two teams were quite even throughout the game. However, DWG’s better scaling with Caitlyn and Ornn became the key to their victory. The “Ornnaments” are very valuable the longer the game goes, and Caitlyn’s traps are really obnoxious. No wonder her ban rate is so high across all regions.
DRX desperately tried to make something happen with flank attempts from both Doran and Chovy, but nothing worked well. DWG’s perfect vision setup was definitely something else, and their teamfight positioning and execution were also superior to the enemies. Despite being only 2k gold ahead, the empowered items paired with the Ocean Soul made them unkillable. With that, DWG took Game 1 in just over 37 minutes.

Game 2

The series’ momentum was already in DWG’s favor and game 2 didn’t help turn the tides. Even with a failed early invade by Canyon and the absolute need to snowball their team composition ( Renekton, Nidalee, and Kalista ), they quickly regained composure and the flow of the game. The most unexpected thing about this game was how Ghost & BeryL outclassed Deft& Keria in a straight 2v2. The consistent good use of Kalista’s Fate Call with Alistar’s combos showed why DWG’s weaker links ( on paper ) are still very scary. Definitely excited to see them compete against the Chinese teams and LEC/LCS’s botlanes.
With the whole team not performing well, Chovy was the one carrying the biggest burden. His Jayce performance was really good and it was clear that he was trying his best. Nonetheless, it was still not enough. DWG stacked their dragons just like in Game 1 which eventually led to Baron, Ocean Soul, and the enemy’s Nexus in 31 minutes.
The team difference that occurred in this series is also a big question mark: is DWG that strong or is DRX also underperforming? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

Game 3

DWG continued to dominate DRX, completely destroying them. ShowMaker & Nuguri popped on Akali and Renekton and watching DWG’s coordination and micro play was a delight. Chovy was once again the only one who could match up to his enemy but everyone knows that 1v9 performances do not happen as much in League, especially in pro play.

That play basically ended all hopes for DRX to get back into the series. Irelia was the only threat, and she also fell later on into the game. DWG continued to push their lead even further and destroyed the Nexus for the 3rd time to win the LCK Summer Split and the ticket to Worlds.
Despite the loss, DRX will participate as the 2nd seed and put Gen.G into the Regional Qualifier, where the 3rd and last seed will be decided. KT Rolster, Afreeca Freecs, T1 and Gen.G will be the four contenders. Who do you think will earn the last ticket? What do you expect from Korea this year? Let us know down below.

To watch the LCK Regional Qualifier, watch the games from the official broadcast the starting from 7th September 10:00 AM. (CET)
