Deep Rock Galactic: How to Get Pickaxe Parts

Published:

As fun as shooting up Glyphids and passing out on Blackout Stout are, one of the most important parts of Deep Rock Galactic is the mining. On the average mission, you see your pickaxe about 300 times, and thankfully the developers let us make it as cool as possible. Here’s how to get pickaxe parts in Deep Rock Galactic.

Near the player cabins in the space rig, there is a section for customization. Here you can find the wardrobe, equipment, drone modification, and pickaxe customization terminals. The pickaxe customization terminal will be on the wall closest to the Memorial Hall, and will have a pickaxe-shaped indentation.

Here you can customize all seven different parts of your pickaxe, which are as follows:

  • Front blade
  • Back blade
  • Head
  • Shaft
  • Handle
  • Pommel
  • Paintjob

Each of these parts can be equipped individually, which allows for highly customizable and individualized pickaxe setups.

As of the time of writing, there are currently three separate ways to get pickaxe parts.

DLC bundles

The DLC bundles should be pretty self-explanatory. These are just purchasable bundles that include cosmetics for characters, weapons, and pickaxes. Currently there are only four different pickaxe paintjobs as DLC, and no parts.

The Lost Pack

The Lost Pack is the method through which you will primarily be unlocking pickaxe parts. The Lost Pack is a randomly spawning hidden chest that grants materials based on the region of the mission, as well as an armor paintjob or pickaxe parts.

The Lost Pack has a 1/6 chance of spawning in any given mission. When it does, it will be located via a helmet that will appear somewhere in the cave. The helmet will emit a distinct beeping sound, and once found, will need to be scanned. A pink plus sign will then be visible on the terrain scanner, indicating a pocket within the cave walls that can be dug towards to reveal the Lost Pack.

Prestige assignments

Prestige assignments are the last method to obtain pickaxe parts, and will likely be the last method you come across. Prestige assignments are granted to the player upon reaching set player levels, and will, when completed, grant all parts for a unique pickaxe. The pickaxe parts obtained from prestige assignments are separate from the Lost Pack, so play enough and these are eventually guaranteed.
