The first few hours of Deep Rock Galactic are pretty straightforward. Mine some Morkite, shoot some Glyphids, have some beers, rinse and repeat. Complete enough assignments, though, and eventually you’ll be able to promote your character, giving access to new weapon mods, and more dangerous and complex assignments. Here’s how to promote in Deep Rock Galactic.
What do you get from promoting?
There are multiple benefits from promoting your character. Each promotion will allow you to continue levelling your character, as well as giving your character an honor badge, which is the frame around your character portrait.
Here are all the unlocks that come with the first promotion:
An extra perk slot
Breach the Core assignment, as well as access to the Weekly Core Hunt
Access to the Forge
The ability to go on Deep Dive missions
The Tritilyte Key, to activate machine events
What do you need in order to promote?
There are a few prerequisites for promoting in Deep Rock Galactic. Firstly, you have to have one of your classes at the max character level, 25. Promoting is on a per-class basis, meaning that promoting your gunner does not promote your scout, for example.
You will also need a certain amount of credits and materials in order to receive a promotion. Fortunately, you don’t have to pay the promotion costs until after you complete your promotion assignments, which gives you time to farm up.
How to promote in Deep Rock Galactic
Once you get a class to level 25, you will have access to the promotion qualification assignments. This will be a series of four assignments, which are different for each class.
After completing all four assignments, head up to the Memorial Hall on the top floor of the Space Rig. The promotion terminal can be found here. Just interact with the terminal, pay the promotion costs, and then your character will be promoted.
