Are you one of the thousands of people who want a Def Jam Reboot? Well, you’ve been joined by legendary rapper, actor, writer, and producer… Ice-T.
Def Jam: Vendetta started it all.. But Def Jam: Fight For NY was really where the game cemented itself as a hit. It really was a one-of-a-kind title. Released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube, it featured a whole host of hip-hop artists on top of countless other celebrity cameos. Snoop Dogg, Method Man, Sean Paul, Busta Rhymes, and Ice-T himself were central to the title!
The first title was more of a wrestling game than anything, but Fight For NY expanded this into a variety of fighting styles. Its combat was fantastic for the time and its story was pretty decent, too! You created your own fighter who has to make his way through various underground rings and make it to the top! There are a massive 67 playable characters to play as, too. All the real-life artists featured were signed to Def Jam at the time, if you’re wondering how they filtered it out.

In the tweet below, you can see Ice-T’s suggestion…
Def Jam did tease a possible new entry into the series a few years back, with the tweet below… However, that was it. Still, the next generation could be the chance Def Jam needs to make its return to consoles. The upgraded graphics engine would certainly do justice to those who feature in it, and everyone likes a customizable character.
Ice-T thinks it’s time for the game to make a comeback, and I’m inclined to agree. Recently, fans of wrestling games have been a bit hard-done-by. 2k’s latest WWE title, WWE 2K20, was met with a lot of issues on release. Gamespot gave it a 2 out of 10! It has sloppy gameplay and, frankly, underwhelming graphics given the expectations. It was so bad that WWE 2K21 was cancelled. Well, that and the impact of COVID-19. But even still, it’s hard to imagine why you’d buy another game from 2K’s WWE Series after WWE2K20.
Could A Def Jam Reboot Be The Answer?
If it’s done right, I think it might.
