Destiny 2 Beyond Light Trailer: More to The Darkness?

Bungie gave us a good look at the main antagonist, Eramis as well as the Darkness itself in a new Beyond Light trailer this morning. Watch the Beyond Light trailer below!

The Darkness

“A growing divide echoes in our collective unconscious. Precious gifts bestowed by the Traveler. Unspeakable evil brought forth by the Pyramids. As division spreads and distrust grows between alliances long thought unbreakable, the truths we hold dear will be questioned…Guardian, is there more to the Darkness than we thought?

Shard of Darkness

It looks like the Fallen use this Darkness shard, reminiscent of the Darkness pyramids we see in-game in Season of Arrivals, to harvest the Darkness and obtain their Stasis powers. My guess is we will probably obtain our own Stasis powers by overtaking this area and using the same machine to harvest Darkness abilities of our own.

An Old Friend Returns…with a Metal Arm

Variks, last seen in Destiny 1, is a Fallen Vandal who resided in the Vestian Outpost in the Reef and assisted the Vanguard and the Awoken at multiple points in the game. A former House of Judgment member, Variks abandoned the Awoken and reformed the House of Judgment under his own rule, as of Forsaken. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his return as he was a fan-favorite in the original Destiny, as is his voice actor, Dee Bradley Baker.

Variks, the Loyal and the Exo Stranger

Here we see Variks, the Loyal return and it looks like he’s sending a distress signal, most likely to the Vanguard in hopes of saving his people…but it looks like another familiar face has answered the call instead. The Exo Stranger (presumably Elsie Bray) shows up behind Variks as he is sending his distress signal, I have no idea if she knows that Variks is an ally or if she will see a Fallen Vandal and immediately go in for the kill? However, I don’t think the Vanguard and the Guardian will be very happy to see Variks as he was the one that allowed Uldren Sov to escape the Prison of Elders, leading to the death of Cayde-6. I suppose this will be answered in Beyond Light.

Eramis, Kell of Darkness

Eramis, Kell of Darkness

We got another good look at the new villain being introduced in Beyond Light…Eramis, Kell of Darkness. Eramis has harnessed the powers of the Darkness and reunited the Fallen House of Devils. Eramis is not a new character, however. While she hasn’t been seen in a Destiny game, she has been mentioned in the Zero Hour mission where she intended to steal an exotic pulse rifle, Outbreak Prime, this may be a clue that she was trying to recreate the Devil Splicers introduced in the Rise of Iron expansion of Destiny 1. She is the first known female Fallen and, as of Beyond Light, she also formed her own Fallen House known as the House of Darkness.

Forsaken Barons are Back…or Are They?

We also get our first look at the new Barons–I mean House Salvation Elites. These Elites are Eramis’s lieutenants, known as Atraks, Kridis, Phylaks, and Praksis and they are all wielders of Stasis. There are 4 listed Elites, however, in the image above there are only 3 present. I wonder if Bungie is holding off on showing us a better glimpse of all of the Elites until closer to the launch of Beyond Light?

Destiny 2 Beyond Light releases on November 10, will you be playing on Day 1? Are you excited to learn more about Eramis and the Darkness? Do you think these Elites are just a repeat of the Barons introduced in Forsaken? Is there anything I missed in today’s Beyond Light trailer? Let us know in the comments below!
