Device Leaves Astralis to Join NiP

The world of CS:GO woke up this Friday to a massive shock as Nicolai “device” Reedtz, four time Major Champion, will depart Astralis to sign a three year contract with the Swedes of NiP.

Having represented Astralis since its genesis, the 25 year-old will now leave the legendary Danish line-up that archieved the highest number of Major victories in Counter-Strike history.

This will also be the official end of the trio composed by device, Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen and Andreas “xyp9x” Højsleth. The three Danes have been playing together since 2013, playing under organisations such as Copenhagen Wolves, Team Dignitas and Team Solo Mid before aiding in the creation of Astralis.

Two time Major MVP, the Danish sniper helped Astralis build a legacy in Counter-Strike. With him, the organisation would go on to win the ELEAGUE Major 2017 and establish a dominant era in the following years with three consecutive major triumphs: FACEIT Major London 2018, IEM Katowice Major 2019 and StarLadder Major: Berlin 2019.

With Major tournaments being put on hold during 2020 and the larger part of this year, Astralis failed to transition its dominance into online tournaments, with burnout forcing players such as Xyp9x to take a temporary break.

A 2-0 defeat against OG in the opening match of BLAST Premier Showdown would be the coup de grâce for this line-up, urging the Danes to make changes.

I’ve lived in Sweden for some time now, speaking the language and I’m really hyped about this young and exciting NIP project. To join one of the most successful organizations, where so many legends have played, inspires me. Just see what LeBron James achieved with the Lakers for instance, and with the Major in Stockholm coming up; to bring that home to Sweden is my number one goal.

Ninjas in Pyjamas have been facing similar difficulties with their Swedish line-up for quite some time. Having completely revamped their squad with young domestic talent, the team has of yet to bloom and consistently show results at the highest stage of competition.

Due to a clash in roles, the Ninjas will make Tim “nawwk” Jonasson available for transfer after a one year stint with the organisation.

His debut inside the server as NiP Device is bound for the upcoming Flashpoint Season 3, one of the chosen events to contribute points for the 2021 RMR circuit.
