Does Warzone 2 Have SBMM?

Published:

Modern Warfare 2 has been criticized for its SBMM (Skill Based Matchmaking) system since its launch. And now with Warzone 2 players may be wondering if they will encounter the same SBMM issues as well.

Is There SBMM in Warzone 2?

Unless Activision will say otherwise, there is likely to be SBMM in Warzone 2 to try and make the games fair for everyone. You will be put in lobbies with players of approximately the same skill level.

SBMM will lower the risk of having a player going 20-0 and dominating everyone. Which is great for players who want to play competitively. On the other hand, it makes every match competitive without too much space for casual and relaxed play.

How SBMM Works in Warzone 2 and MW2

In Modern Warfare 2, the SBMM has caused a lot of frustration because it makes the game very monotonous. From the words of CouRageJD (and any CoD player you ask), you will spawn, get 1-2 kills and die because everyone is equally good at the game.

The SBMM in Modern Warfare 2 tries to put everyone between 0.8 and 1.2 KD. And that means when you go below, you will pop off one game to get the KD back up and get annihilated if your KD rises too high.

It is unclear if the SBMM in Warzone 2 will work the same way. But in the original Warzone, there was supposedly SBMM based on player KD as well. So we can expect something similar in Warzone 2.

There is no official way for you to understand how SBMM works and what your MMR is as Infinity Ward does not disclose this information. What you can do, is use in-game and third-party tools to track your KD.

Since you are likely to play in competitive lobbies you have to prepare. There are quite a few new things in both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 that you should know to make the most out of your games:
