On October 24th, Valve delivered ‘The Big Update’ in Dota Underlords. This gave us Underlords, Duos Mode, Freestyle Mode, Jail, New Heroes, New Alliances and a brand new shiny UI. Now, ‘The Outlanders Update’ has dropped.
Introducing Snapfire! She provides ranged support for the crew and will periodically fire a shotgun blast and slow enemy attack rate. If the Dragon Alliance is active, (unlock an additional draconic ability) her lizard friend hurls globs of fire at the enemy.
The Spirits Join The Battle!
The Spirits heroes have entered the conflict, giving us four new heroes to try out, including a brand new Alliance: the Spirit Brotherhood. (not actually called that, but it should be)
Storm Spirit (Tier 2) – (Ball Lightning Ability) Storm Spirit becomes volatile electricity, charging across the battlefield and dealing damage to each unit he passes through. (Passive Ability) When Storm Spirit executes a Delta Slam, he disarms affected enemy units.
Ember Spirit (Tier 2) – (Sleight of Fist Ability) Ember Spirit dashes around with blazing speed, attacking all enemies within range before returning to his start location. (Passive Ability) When Ember Spirit executes a Delta Slam, he sets affected enemy units on fire.
Earth Spirit (Tier 3) (Geomagnetic Grip Ability) Earth Spirit summons a Stone Remnant off the map and pulls it towards his current target. Enemies struck by the incoming Stone Remnant are silenced and take damage. (Passive Ability) When Earth Spirit executes a Delta Slam, he silences affected enemy units.
Void Spirit (Ace Tier) – Void Spirit is a Spirit Warlock and is the Ace of Spirits. He is a melee attacker, and his Dissimilate ability allows him to create portals and perform sneak attacks on opponents. Void Spirit’s Ace ability makes charged Spirits deal 100% more damage.
Spirit Alliance – Void Spirit didn’t head to White Spire on his own. He brought a few cousins with him: Storm Spirit, Ember Spirit, and Earth Spirit. When three of the spirits are on the board together and charged, they fire off the Triangular Delta Slam. This damages all enemy heroes within and applies each spirit’s elemental effects. You can see this effect in the video below.
New Game Mode – KNOCKOUT!
A new fast-paced game mode called Knockout has been added. In Knockout, every player begins by choosing a starting crew of 5 heroes. Players level up automatically every other round. Also, each player has 4 strikes (losses) before they get knocked out. Because of this, games last an average of 10 minutes. In addition, it only takes two heroes to combine and level up your warriors. Finally, players will only be fighting against other players with the same or similar health. At the moment, Knockout mode is only available for casual play. Ranked mode will be added in the future.
‘The Outlanders Update’ makes improvements to the in-game UI. Furthermore, Valve has added many more 2-star and 3-star visual upgrades for heroes. In addition, a new tutorial has been introduced to quickly teach new players the basic concepts of Dota Underlords. Valve is pushing closer and closer to leaving Early Access and getting to a full 1.0 build or Season 1 as they call it.
