DreamLeague Season 13 – The Leipzig Major! – Preview

DreamLeague Season 13 will be the Second Major of this DPC Season, with 15,000 Pro Circuit points on the line that will greatly contribute to the qualification of The International 2020! 16 of the world’s best Dota 2 teams will compete for a slice of the $1,000,000 Prize Pool!

It’s also the first time we will be seeing top teams such as Team Secret, Virtus Pro and Team Nigma complete at a Major this DPC Season. In addition, this will be the first Major played this DPC Season that will be using the 7.23 Patch. I can only imagine what heroes and strategies will be implemented by the top teams!

DreamLeague Season 13

The Group Stage will feature four GSL Groups made up of four teams each, and all games played will be Bo3. The top two teams will advance to the Upper Bracket of the playoffs while the bottom two teams will advance to the Lower Bracket of the playoffs.

The Playoffs will portray a Double Elimination Bracket. The first round of the Lower Bracket will include a tense Bo1 of encounter. All other games are Bo3, except for the Grand Final that will a Bo5 engagement.

Group Stage: – January 18th-19th

Playoffs: – January 21st-26th

The Final 16!

This major is set to be much more exciting than the MDL Chengdu Major, as quality teams such as Team Secret, Virtus Pro and Nigma who were all missing in China will compete in Leipzig! Elsewhere, we have SEA giants Fnatic, DreamLeague Season 12 Winners Alliance and Chaos Esports Club who all have the potential to make a deep run at this tournament.

DreamLeague Season 13

Groups & Initial Matchups:

There are some very spicy opening matchups. These include major champions TNC Predator vs WePlay! Bukovel Minor winners Team Nigma, the best of China vs the best of Europe with Vici Gaming vs Team Secret and Evil Geniuses vs Natus Vincere.

Who Are The Favourites?

Vici Gaming: Vici Gaming has had a fantastic start to this new Dota season, finishing second at the first Major before winning the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore defeating Evil Geniuses 3-0 in the Grand Final! I expect the Chinese roster to at least finish in the Top 4 in Leipzig.

Team Secret: Team Secret was the best Dota 2 team in the DPC last season. Since TI9, they replaced ”MidOne” with ”MATUMBAMAN” who will be playing carry while ”Nisha” switched to the mid lane. Team Secret‘s first appearance this Dota season was at the ONE Esports Singapore Invitational where they only finished 5th-6th despite a strong showing in the Group Stage. However, I believe in “Puppey” and his team; they most likely won’t win this Major, but I do expect them to finish in the Top 3.

Evil Geniuses: The North American roster will be coming in as one of the strongest teams of the tournament. The team came top 4 at the MDL Chengdu Major and finished second in the ONE Esports Dota 2 Singapore Invitational. Could this be event where it finally clicks for NA squad?

Nigma: Even though this doesn’t really make sense, I’m putting Team Nigma in this category just because this roster seems to have a habit of making deep runs in tournaments despite starting events very slowly. In addition, because they just won the WePlay! Bukovel Minor! they will be full of confidence, although it’s also possible they could drop out in the Lower Bracket Bo1. Can Nigma pull off another TI9 performance? We’ll have to wait and see!

TNC Predator: TNC Predator is in a strange position right now. They won the MDL Chengdu Major in convincing fashion, but have struggled since, limping through the Leipzig Qualifiers and falling well short of expectations at the ONE Esports Singapore Invitational. It seems TNC have been hit the hardest by the nerfs to Alchemist and Morphling, and only time will tell if they recover from this rough form and show us their best again!

In Conclusion:

DreamLeague events are always great fun, trust me. Fantastic production value, hilarious memes and quality Dota will be shown off DreamLeague Season 13!

The opening match of the The Leipzig Major will be TNC Predator vs Team Nigma, starts January 18, 2020 – 13:30 CEST
