2020 Steam Awards

There are only a few days left to nominate games for the 2020 Steam Awards. Steam users can participate by nominating games for the following categories:

  • Game of the Year Award
  • VR Game of the Year Award
  • Labor of Love Award
  • Better With Friends Award
  • Outstanding Visual Style Award
  • Most Innovative Gameplay Award
  • Best Game You Suck At Award
  • Best Soundtrack Award
  • Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award
  • Sit Back and Relax Award

Obviously, users can only nominate games that have been released this year, though games like Runescape are eligible since the Steam client for it was released this year. However, the exception is the “Labor of Love Award,” a category for games that have been out for a long time and still continue to receive support from the developers. So games released in previous years are eligible for nomination for that one.

Furthermore, a game can be nominated in only one category, meaning that if you feel that a game is deserving of two different awards, you will have to settle for just one.

The Steam Awards run from November 25 to December 1st 10am PST, and are part of the Steam Autumn Sale, which ends at the same time. Once the Autumn Sale is over, the Winter Sale will arrive and the voting period for the Steam Awards will take place. The Winter Sale and voting period will run up until January 3rd at 10am PST.

Steam users can also earn the “Steam Awards Nomination Committee” badge by completing four tasks:

  • Nominate at least 1 game
  • Play a game you’ve nominated
  • Nominate a game in each category
  • Review (or update your review) for a game you’ve nominated

Each level of the badge will grant 25XP, for a total of 100XP for completing all four tasks.
