Star Wars Episode 1: Racer has a new release date at last! Aspyr has announced that the game will now release on June 23.
Earlier today, Aspyr announced the news we’ve all been waiting for! Episode 1: Racer will be coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on June 23. The title was originally released in 1999 alongside Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. It, as you may already know, focuses on one of the better sequences of the film: The Boonta Eve Classic.
The track we all see in the film is just one of several on Tatooine, and there are a few more on other planets, too! Its sequel, Star Wars Racer Revenge was released in 2002 but was met with generally less-favourable reviews, so thankfully they chose to remaster this one!
Episode 1: Racer Has Jake Lloyd Reprise His Controversial Role
Originally, Episode 1: Racer had three single player game modes and various multiplayer capabilities. Tournament mode was perhaps the most authentic way of playing. This would, as you’d imagine, be a sort of career mode for the title in which winnings could be used to upgrade your podracer, purchase repair droids, unlock new tracks, and unlock new podracers.
The Episode 1: Racer remake was expected to launch May 12 before being delayed. Issues surrounding the changing work environments brought on by COVID-19 fueled further delays from it’s revised May 26 release date. This version will feature enhanced visuals and remapped controls which should make it both an excellent nostalgia trip or a perfect time to play it for the first time!
