If you have somehow managed to avoid joining Geralt on his adventures thus far, with a price cut this big it’s an excellent time to hop onto Geralt’s horse – Roach, and start a journey through this world of monsters and men.
In particular, if you enjoy games that focus on huge amounts of detailed and enjoyable optional content, long storylines and a more grim take on fantasy universes than most, this is an essential experience for you.

Dark Souls III

Now, Dark Souls might seem like an unusual entry for a list of essential game experiences, given the reputation of the series, however, Dark Souls III is the most beginner-friendly entry in the series, so if you’ve been looking for a way to try out the series, this is an ideal opportunity.
And in all honesty, while you might be very likely to see the “You Died” screen regularly, – particularly if you’re new to the series as a whole – death in Dark Souls works quite differently than you likely expect from other games.
If you enjoy games that focus on well-developed combat systems, leave you to own devices and providing regular challenges to overcome, rich with replayability and boss encounters – and optional PVP – then this is an essential experience for you.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – Definitive Experience
Metal Gear Solid – from now on shortened to MGS, is a stealth based shooter series by the famous (or infamous) Hideo Kojima. The latest main entry to the series, MGSV: the Phantom Pain, is currently available at 75% off for a total of only £6.24 – and the Definitive Edition of the game is available on Steam at the same price including a variety of additional items, not least of which is MGS V: Ground Zeroes, a short title that serves as a prologue to the Phantom Pain.
For those who’ve never experienced either a Metal Gear Solid series game before – or indeed even a Kojima game before, this is an excellent starting point to introduce you to them both, and it indeed was for many players, including myself.
If you enjoy well-refined gameplay that emphasizes the ability to take alternative approaches, sneak past opponents entirely and a story that’ll likely keep you busy trying to understand all of its turns and twists, MGSV: The Phantom Pain is definitely an essential experience for you.

Currently available at 70% off, DOOM is only £4.49, making it the ideal moment to grab the title if you’ve been looking for something to help vent out the mess that was 2020 in horrifically brutal fashion.
If you enjoy games that focus on throwing the player against large amounts of enemies at a time and allowing pure carnage to be the result, then DOOM is definitely an essential experience for you.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition
For those of you looking for a more strategic title, Divinity may be more your style, and it’s currently 60% off for a total of £11.99.
Or at least, “More strategic title” is what I would say based on the “Turn-Based RPG” part of this title – if I had no experience of the game – and in fairness, you can probably manage to play Divinity OS2 strategically, if you tried. With that said, however, fights will regularly erupt into absolute chaos, with both sides of combat slogging through varying environmental hazards caused by magical attacks and explosive consumables – or the odd leaking barrel.
To say that the average fight involves someone being set on fire would be an understatement – in Divinity, it’s not an average fight until the entire battleground is slowly burning down. Or drenched in acid. Or partially frozen. Hell, or all of the above and a few more at the same time.
For those of you who enjoy playing games that lend themselves well to CO-OP gameplay or commanding a small team against increasing odds, enjoying managing combat where you can turn the entire fight around with a well-placed fireball, or just want enjoy setting the entire world on fire/drenching it in acid/freezing it whole, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is likely the essential experience for you.
