Every Game Ubisoft Have Cancelled So Far

Published:

A short while ago Ubisoft announced that they canceled three unannounced games and delayed Skull & Bones again. Since Ubisoft canceled quite a lot of games recently we decided to go down memory lane and remember all the games Ubisoft never released.

Note: We will only mention official information about announced games, but there are dozens of other unannounced projects that we will never see.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Frontline

Frontline was supposed to be a battle royale spin-off in the Ghost Recon franchise. It wouldn’t be a battle royale like Warzone or PUBG, the design mostly resembles Hazard Zone mode in Battlefield 2042. You drop in, look for loot and intel, and then extract.

Still, a battle royale is something that no one really wants at this point. There’s just been too much chicken for dinner in the past few years and the players are full. Even if Frontline was released at some point, it probably wouldn’t catch on with competitors like Warzone.

Splinter Cell VR

Ubisoft never really made VR games, but since VR blew up a few years ago, we are not surprised that Ubisoft wanted to jump on the trend as well. The Splinter Cell VR could have been a comeback of a classic series of Ubisoft games, but unfortunately not anymore.

There is not much left for Splinter Cell at all, which is disappointing. At the same time, a VR project is probably not the best way to try and revive the franchise. At the end of the day, only a few of us actually play VR games.

Project Q

Project Q was announced because of several leaks. And it was meant to be a PvP team battle arena (not battle royale) with multiple game modes with one goal in mind: fun.

It wasn’t really a shooter as well. There were supposed to be different abilities and a focus on movement and melee combat with a martial arts style of sorts.

Not much is known except for the fact that the game was canceled. The official reason from Ubisoft was: “we will no longer support the development of Project Q in order to focus on priority projects, to which our teams are being reallocated” and that seems to be the case with the majority of Ubisoft cancelations.

Hyper Scape

Hyper Scape is one of the games that was actually released but didn’t take long to retire. Hyper Scape was a battle royale game released in 2020 and shut in 2022.

The game was actually quite unique as far as the genre goes. When you launched the game you could walk around the “lobby” to access the key menu functions and jump into Neo Arcadia, a virtual world where battle royale matches took place.

The gameplay had a heavy focus on verticality and fast-paced combat. There were jump pads to hop on roofs and jump across them with different mobility and combat power-ups. It was fun but only for a short while. There was nothing that called you back to play, which is why the game never found its audience and died.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots was the next in line of the Rainbow 6 series and was supposed to tell the story of Team Rainbow fighting a terrorist group “True Patriots” in New York City.

The game was planned to be a single-player game with new squad management and combat mechanics. Apart from the story, the game also planned to have multiplayer and co-op experiences.

The development process of the game was very rocky with multiple team changes and controversies surrounding the game. Plus, the new generation of consoles was right around the corner. In the end, Patriots were scrapped, and Ubisoft released another game about Rainbow 6 – Rainbow Six: Siege.

The company has definitely made quite a few moves over the years but we will hope for a bright future ahead and that Ubisoft itself won’t get canceled in the nearest future. There are still a few exciting games coming our way like Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora and Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
