Everything That Happened During The PS5 Showcase Event

Tonight we are being treated to a brand new PS5 Showcase event, the next chance to take a look at what to expect from the system at launch. There will be games shown off and hopefully an official price and release date.

This is a work in progress article that will be updated as the event takes place, so be sure to keep checking back!

Release Date & Price

We finally got the price and release date for the upcoming console. The regular console will be $499/£449 and the digital will be $399/£359. For some reason, the release dates are staggered with the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea getting the console on November 12th, while the rest of the world has to wait until the 19th.

Not going to lie, I kind of feel a bit slighted that the UK got bundled with the rest of the world.

Final Fantasy XVI

Kicking things off in spectacular fashion, and only how Sony can, they revealed the first trailer for Final Fantasy XVI. In my notes, I actually wrote the combat seems very Final Fantasy-ish. I guess I know why now. The game seemed to blend the JRPG and Western style of RPG together, and the results look fantastic. We also got a first look at some of the Summons, including Ifrit. The combat seemed very similar to Final Fantasy XV and 7 Remake, and it looked glorious. No release date has been given yet, but after the mammoth task of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the fact that Part 2 is still in development, I wouldn’t expect this for at least another couple of years.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Next up is a gameplay trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a continuation of the hit PS4 title, Spider-Man. The game carries on from the original and sees Miles take on the role of Spider-Man. The game will launch alongside the PS5, whenever that will be.

Hogwarts Legacy

It was quite unexpected to hear a new Harry Potter was in development after all the films and books have long finished. The game sees the player return to the familiar Hogwarts as an unknown student rather than playing as Harry Potter himself. The game will also see the player go beyond the walls of Hogwarts and will be an RPG game, something that should work very well in the Harry Potter universe. Hogwarts Legacy will launch in 2021.

Call Of Duty Black Ops: Cold War

After skipping the campaign entirely in Black Ops 4, the series is back with a stunning new campaign mode, which was shown off during the event. Graphically, the game looks stunning, and it should be a fantastic entry in the series. Playstation players will also be able to play the Cold War multiplayer Alpha starting this Friday.

Resident Evil 8

We were treated to a new trailer for Resident Evil 8, giving us a little bit more insight into the characters and events. Also, is it just me or did the narrator sound like Ada? Resident Evil 8 will launch at some point in 2021.

Originally shown off during the first PS5 event, the new action/adventure game from Bethesda looks so much fun. The game revolves around time and being stuck in a time loop and should make for some interesting mechanics and scenarios. Definitely one to look out for when it launches in Q2 2021 on PS5 and later on PC.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

It looks like they’re porting Devil May Cry 5 to PS5, definitely a game you should check out if you missed it when it was released last year.

Oddworld Soulstorm

The Oddworld games have always been cult classics and really fun games to play. Oddworld Soulstorm is the next game in the series, perfectly blending the old 2D style of the originals with 3D gameplay too. Definitely one to keep your eye on.

Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach

A new FNAF game was unexpectedly revealed. Not much was given in terms of content, just a very short reveal trailer.

Demon’s Souls

A new Demon’s Souls game was revealed and it looks stunning; next generation Souls looks breathtaking.

It was revealed that Fortnite will be available on PS5 at launch, presumably in 4K 120fps although that is unconfirmed.

Playstation Plus Collection

It seems like quite a few, not all, PS4 games will be backwards compatible at launch, including games such as God Of War, The Last Of Us, RE7, Days Gone, Battlefield 1, and more.

God Of War: Ragnarok

Finally we got an official reveal for the new God Of War game called ‘Ragnarok’. Nothing was really shown, except that it will be released in 2021.
