Evil Geniuses announced they have signed Jimmy Lin as their head coach for its Valorant squad.
A former professional player and pioneer of the Counter-Strike esports scene during the days of CS 1.6 and CS: Source, Lin returns to the team that ushered in his career nearly 15 years ago.
said Lin on his Twitter
“My first contract as a professional Counter-Strike player 15 years ago was with Evil Geniuses. It’s surreal that I’ve come full circle with the same org as Valorant Head Coach. I’m super grateful for this opportunity and excited as hell!”
The Canadian born head coach will take over an EG roster that recently failed to qualify for NA Challengers 1 as part of the 2021 Valorant Champions Tour in its first appearance. They were eliminated in the Round of 64 to Team Serenity.
Lin made a name for himself in the CS scene by playing from 2005 to 2008 with teams such as Team 3D and Evil Geniuses. Years later and with Valorant as his new game of focus, Lin’s professional career was rekindled in September 2020 when he founded Team 2D, a squad that participated in monthly circuit semi-professional tournaments. With 2D, Lin finished second in Nerd Street Gamers September and was one series win away from progressing to the NSG tournament that preluded the First Strike North America event in December of the same year.
EG hopes that with Lin’s burgeoning knowledge of the game and past experience in leading teams no matter the era, he can propel them to become another prime contender in the already stacked NA region.
