A new rumor suggests that a new Fable game is currently in development for the upcoming Xbox Series X. The last core Fable game was released back in 2010 with various spin offs since, but the series has largely fell to the wayside, and fans have been hoping a new Fable game would be released ever since.
IGN’s Miranda Sanchez, who has suggested that she has a “very very very exciting piece” that will be released on Monday, and that it will be “very relevant to Xbox audiences”.
Shortly after, industry insider shinobi602 hinted that players wouldn’t have to wait too much longer for new news from Xbox and to expect “gorgeous fantasy worlds,” “reboots,” and “big sci-fi.”
This could mean Fable as the gorgeous fantasy world, as it’s the only real Xbox IP that fits this bill. For the reboot, it could mean numerous games from Banjo Kazooie to Perfect Dark (and I’d be fine with either), and big sci-fi potentially points to a new game by Obsidian.
The current rumor is that Playground Games will be developing a future Fable title. Playground Games are an Xbox Games Studio and known for the Forza Horizon series and has been working on an AAA open world RPG action game since 2018, this fits the bill for what Fable is.
With E3 2020 being cancelled, Microsoft are hosting their own digital event in June which is when we can expect to see many of the announced launch titles and year 1 titles for the new Xbox Series X console so it is possible we will see all the heavy hitters announced for the new console, possibly Fable included.
