What is Far Cry 6 about?

The sixth main installment of Ubisoft’s FPS will revolve around the oppressive dictatorship of Antón Castillo, whose family has been in control of running the island of Yara for decades.

Amidst Castillo’s reign, a revolution has begun to overthrow the leader, and your character will be a part of it.

Far Cry 6’s narrative will revolve around Castillo, his son Diego, and your character Dani Rojas – what narrative director Navid Khavari calls “a triangle of characters [that is] absolutely crucial”.

Antón Castillo is the big bad of Far Cry 6, played by the iconic Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito, and will be present throughout most of the game’s story.

Castillo’s son Diego has been taken under his father’s wing as a successor, however, some fans have theorized that Far Cry 6 is a prequel to Far Cry 3, calling Diego a young Vaas Montenegro.

Dani Rojas will be Far Cry 6’s main protagonist, fighting against Castillo’s rule as part of Yara’s resistance group. Players will have the option of selecting a male or female Dani to play.

Other main characters include Libertad leader Clara Garcia and master revolutionist Juan Cortez, who aids Rojas with weaponry and ‘Amigos’.

Far Cry 6 will also feature new Fangs for Hire, known as Amigos, including Champagne, Guapo, and Chorizo the Sausage Dog.

Inspired by Ubisoft’s trip to Cuba, the fictional Caribbean island of Yara will be Far Cry 6’s setting.

Esperanza is Yara’s capital, giving the game an urban environment to explore. This setting will also support the game’s new parkour mechanics, such as a rooftop runs.

Yara also offers jungles and beaches as scenic backdrops to gameplay, offering a vast map to navigate.

When will Far Cry 6 be released?

Far Cry 6 is due to release on October 7, 2021.

Ubisoft was meant to release the game back in February, however a late 2020 delay pushed the launch back.

Will Far Cry 6 be cross-platform?

Far Cry 6 will be cross-platform, available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Stadia.

Will Far Cry 6 have third-person mode?

Far Cry 6 will feature some third-person play, which was previously teased by Ubisoft when the game was announced.

Gamespot’s interview with Khavari alluded that some third-person gameplay will be included – in addition to cutscenes – in order for the player to feel more connected to the protagonist Dani.

If you want to get a taste of what Ubisoft’s franchise has offered before, then revisiting some older titles may be worth your time.

While each of the five, main installments and the three spin-offs – Primal, Blood Dragon, and New Dawn – have a lot of different stories and mechanics to offer, most would agree that Far Cry 3 is the best title to revisit.

Far Cry 6 will have its own story to follow, but Far Cry 3’s narrative has many plaudits, and was also the game the propelled the franchise into triple-A standards.

Some fans even believe that if Far Cry 5’s gunplay and looting system was ported into the third game, then it would have earned the title of one of the best FPS games in history.

Far Cry 3 also has Vaas Montenegro as one of the main antagonists, therefore, playing it before the sixth chapter could fuel the theory that Diego Castillo and Vaas are the same person.
