Far Cry 6 Yara Island

Ubisoft’s gameplay reveal of Far Cry 6 introduced us to the characters, the story of dictatorship and rebellion, as well as the island of Yara, and this guide explains what we know so far about Yara’s map.

There are a good handful of characters that will be at the heart of the game’s narrative, and the protagonist Dani Rojas – whom you will be controlling – has plenty of scenic areas to explore.

Redditor PaulMorrison90 shared a screenshot with the Far Cry subreddit showing a full display of Yara’s map.

At first glance, the island is extensive, however Ubisoft is no stranger to vast maps. Yara appears to be split into five main areas: one large North West region, a smaller Northern area, a large central area, and a Southern area making up Yara’s largest region.

There is also a small island in the South West corner of the map, which some fans believe will be home to Yara’s dictator Antón Castillo.

It is worth mentioning that the various regions of Yara seem to be classed into different zones, meaning that some regions may be more heavily guarded than others – as well as being home to the handful of main characters.

We know from the gameplay trailers that there will be jungles, beaches, and urban areas on offer to explore, and we have a rough idea of where those terrains will be located.

Going by the aforementioned screenshot of the map, there will be a large jungle region in the center of Yara, and the largest, Southern region appears to have plenty of mountains. We already know from gameplay that swamps and rustic villages will also decorate Yara’s landscape, adding variety to gameplay.

The body of water surrounding the different regions suggests that boats or aircrafts will be needed at some point to reach the segregated areas.

The Caribbean island will work off of its own tropical ecosystem, which will create plenty of contrasting environments for the player to navigate.

Scale and Map Editor

It has been previously suggested that it will take around an hour to walk the length of Yara – being the biggest map of the franchise.

During a Reddit Q&A, the developers confirmed that the Map Editor would not be returning for Far Cry 6, which was disappointing to some fans.

Esperanza – Yara’s capital

Yara’s capital is Esperanza, also known as the ‘Lion’s Den’ – a nickname given by the revolution.

Esperanza provides players with an urban environment to explore, as well as more built-up areas with towering buildings.

Although Esperanza is the bustling capital, the city seems somewhat trapped within the 1950s, where Castillo’s reign has suppressed the city from evolving.

In addition to Esperanza, various bouts of gameplay have also highlighted a lighthouse and airport, which supports the theory that you will need to use other methods of transports to reach isolated areas.

There will also be many opportunities to scale the mountains that lie in the South, where plenty of stunning views will be on display.

In addition to the various biomes included on the Caribbean island, waterfalls, ruined structures, atmospheric back alleys, and much more will add to the platter of interesting places to investigate.
