FaZe Clan and Evil Geniuses continue to struggle as they end their run at the BLAST Premier Spring Finals as the last placers (7th-8th).
FaZe Challenge NAVI and G2
FaZe brought NAVI to three maps, to the very last round of regulation, and we’re only two rounds away from knocking the CIS powerhouse into the lower bracket. Unfortunately for Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s squad, they could not close out the final map after they lost a crucial round against nothing but pistols.
This brought them to an unexpected enemy in G2, who were upset by BIG Clan in the opening matches of the upper bracket. The series would begin on FaZe’s map choice of Ancient, where they had a dominant showing after a comeback, against NAVI. Unfortunately for FaZe, it seemed that G2 were more prepared for them, as G2 limited them to only 10 round wins.
FaZe however had a strong reply on FaZe’s map choice of Inferno. On the back of a great performance from Helvijs ‘broky’ Saukants FaZe managed to tie the series after taking Inferno ’16-12′. Broky had the most kills on the server with 24, next on the scoreboard was 21.
This brought the series to the decided map of Nuke. On the decider, the series was decided quickly as G2 showed their dominance throughout the entire game. They stopped any kind of momentum FaZe had on the previous map and they denied them from reaching more than 5 rounds. A strong showing on the final map for G2, and the final map FaZe will play in the BLAST Premier: Spring Finals. They played a total of 6 maps and won only 2. FaZe are eliminated at last place but they have shown that they can definitely still put up a strong fight against the best teams in the world.
Evil Geniuses fall quick to Gambit and Ninjas in Pyjamas
EG showed impressive preparation against the world number one, on their map pick, but they still could not win the map. They then fell flat against the CT side of Gambit’s Dust 2, losing their opening series in the upper bracket in only 2 maps. This brought them to the lower bracket, facing against Ninjas in Pyjamas, who lost their series against Complexity.
This led to the first elimination match of the tournament, between EG and NiP.
EG’s map pick Overpass started well until the 8th round when it turned around in favour of the Ninjas. NiP won the final 7 rounds of the first half, taking the first-half lead at ‘9-6’. It was just a simple job for the Ninjas against the CT side of EG on their map pick. With the map won by NiP ’16-11′ the series continued on NiP’s pick of Dust 2. EG’s display on Dust 2 was similar to their game against Gambit. Although they didn’t take a strong lead in their CT side, they still kept it close, only down one round ‘7-8’.
But again similar to their game against gambit, they could not produce results on their T side. The second half was far from competitive, with EG only taking 5 rounds. With NiP’s 16-12 win on Dust 2, EG were eliminated at last place from the BLAST Premier Spring Finals.
