FFXIV Online Starter Edition is currently free on the PlayStation Store. It will be available at no charge until May 26, according to Square Enix.
The Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition is currently free for PlayStation 4 users via the PlayStation Store. FFXIV Online Starter Edition includes the first expansion for the game, A Realm Reborn, and a 30-Day free trial. This allows players to play up to level 50 before hitting a level cap. The subsequent expansions raise this. If you purchase Stormblood, the newest expansion, you will also get Heavensward, so that should save you a bit if you get hooked. Shadowbringers is the third expansion that was released last year. This includes a whole host of new content and raises the level cap to 80.

Final Fantasy XIV Online is set five years after the events of the original title…
You’re instantly thrown into a world of danger and conflict when starting FFXIV Online. At the end of the original, Bahamut is initiating the Seventh Umbral Calamity. This cataclysmic event destroys much of Eorzea, the land in which FFXIV Online is set. Your character only survives by time travelling five years into the future. However, this is not the end of your problems, as you instantly have to deal with the northern invasion of the Garlean Empire.
FFXIV Online plays similarly to other titles in its genre. The Final Fantasy XIV Starter Edition does not include all the content available but offers a healthy selection to get players started. You can choose from a class that is divided into three disciplines… War/Magic, Land, and Hand.
These then split off into the classes that follow:
Gladiator;
Marauder;
Pugilist;
Arcanist;
Conjurer;
Thaumaturge;
Rogue;
Lancer;
Archer.
Upon hitting level 30, these classes also then develop into jobs within FFXIV Online. These allow for further specialisation and progression. For more information, I would recommend checking it out for yourself. There’s a lot of depth and strategy involved!
It’s important to note that Final Fantasy XIV Online is a subscription-based MMORPG. In this respect, though, it seems to follow in World of Warcraft’s footsteps. Up until level 35, FFXIV is free to play. After that, though, you’re looking at a monthly recurring fee. It isn’t clear if the 30-Day free trial applies past level 35 or when you begin playing.
Until May 26, the FFXIV Online Starter Edition will be free on PlayStation 4. Civilization VI is also currently free on the Epic Games store. For more on the latest gaming news, reviews, and features… Check out @GamezoGG on Twitter and our Youtube channel here.
