Fortnite 14.40 Update Coming Tomorrow

Fortnite Season 4 is in full swing now, with just over a month to go until the end date. It has been announced that the Fortnite 14.40 update will be landing tomorrow, no doubt bringing lots of new Halloween themed content into the game.

The news was tweeted by the Fortnite Status Twitter account, which used a pumpkin emoji to announce the news, signalling the likely start of Fortnitemares, the games yearly Halloween themed event. In previous years we have seen zombies and other spooky themed additions to the game, so expect lots more in tomorrows update.

Downtime for the Fortnite 14.40 update will begin at 4am ET (9am UK time), and will likely last between 90 minutes and 2 hours. In the update we should see the Week 9 challenges finalized ready for Thursday, new skins and cosmetics added, a potentially a new LTM, or a return of past modes such as the Storm King LTM.

One interesting note is that the patch will be approximately 27GB in size, much larger than usual, but is filled with optimizations that will actually make the total game size over 60GB smaller, which is fantastic news.

Please note the patch size will be larger than normal on PC (approx. 27 GB). This is to make optimizations on PC resulting in a massively reduced Fortnite file size (over 60 GB smaller), smaller downloads for future patches, and improved loading performance.

It will be interesting to see if the zombies make a return, players generally dislike them but Epic Games seems to love to add them back in. I just hope we don’t see the return of the zombie soccer skins jumping out from cars, I still have nightmares about those.
