Fortnite’s annual Christmas event is finally here and it’s as generous as ever. Although this year it’s been titled Operation Snowdown, rather than Winterfest like last year. Below, we’ll go into detail on what exactly is included in Fortnite Operation Snowdown and all of the awesome rewards you get for completing challenges.
Fortnite Operation Snowdown Details
We see the return of a lot of older seasonal items back into rotation. Things you can expect to have returned on the island are Stormwings, Snowball Launchers, snow, Outposts, Christmas trees and so much more.
Stormwings are the incredibly agile planes Fortnite added a while back that got some LTM love as well at one point. They have been out of rotation all of Chapter 2 though as boats have been more involved with the recent water inclusion of the map.
The new Snowball Launcher has been named The Big Chill. Rather than being a traditional explosive weapon, this launcher launches enemies and freezes their feet causing them to slide uncontrollably.
If you find a Christmas tree in a town there is going to be at least one chest under it but be careful, as these are generally very out in the open.
You should also expect to see the island become covered in snow very fast over the next few days. Honestly, I loved the blizzard conditions they’ve previously had on the island and I am always for interesting things like it.
Also, earlier this month, in the item shop, Fortnite released an emote called Sign Along where any player using will sync up with others also using the emote. Now, Epic Games is giving the the emote away for free in the item shop right now and refunding anyone that previously purchased it.
The emote can be seen below:
Operation Snowdown Challenges
As you can see below, the challenges aren’t completely out yet, but you can see what reward you will get for completing the challenge once it is released.
Simply by finding the new Snowmando Outposts and searching chests inside you will complete the first two challenges. We’ll go over the specific locations and number of chests below as well as the rest of the released challenges so far.
Visit Different Snowmando Outposts
Added this week are 5 new small base of operations buildings called Snowmando Outposts. These are scatted throughout the map near named locations.
West of Pleasant Park:
Near Weather Station, South of Catty Corner:
South of Holly Hedges:
South of Steamy Stacks:
East of Slurpy Swamp:
Search Chests at Snowmando Outposts
Now, while you can just visit these new Outposts just by landing at them, you should be careful as this is where the new planes are housed and players will fight you for one.
I don’t think we can expect to see The Ice King this season like we have previously but maybe the water will ice over? Who knows with this season but I’m excited to see the entirety of the Fortnite Operation Snowdown Event.
For this Fortnite Operation Snowdown challenge you will need to dance at different Holiday trees.
Holiday trees are Christmas trees and you can find one at most named locations, usually pretty out in the open, and they usually have about 3 chests under them.
Dance at five different Holiday trees to complete this challenge.
Place Top 10 in Squads With Friends
Now, I’ve seen a lot of complaints about this already from people who, like me, don’t generally play with other people but seeing that the reward is a new wrap that I like, I’m going to try to get this done.
So you’ll just need to place anywhere between 1st and 10th place in a Squads game to complete this challenge while playing with at least one friend.
Be sure to lookout for a new challenge with a new reward every day that you sign in during this event!
There is also a new playlist called Operation Snowdown that features a rotating set of returning game modes and a new LTM.
Operation Snowdown will feature a rotation of returning LTMs, including the fan-favorite Air Royale, plus the brand new Shockwave LTM, which sees players compete to knock each other into the (extra-strong) Storm as it shrinks down to nothing. Also, Pickaxe Frenzy will arrive in LTM form for the first time.
Fortnite said in a blog post about the new seasonal LTMs
How do you feel about Fortnite Operation Snowdown so far? Personally, I like the skins that can be unlocked and can’t wait to complete these challenges and unlock them. Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
