Ahead of their match against Oh My God, it was announced that FPX Crisp returned as the team’s starting support. This is after the support was hospitalized two weeks ago due to sudden cervical spine pain.
Crisp was a vital player in FPX’s Worlds victory in 2019. While the team did not show up in Worlds 2020, FPX had quite the run last split. The team went all the way to the finals but came up short against RNG. This summer split, FPX had a strong start but was forced to do some roster changes in the middle of the split.
One such change involves Crisp, who as mentioned earlier, was hospitalized due to sudden cervical spine pain. In his place, JingYi stepped in his place while Crisp recovered. While not a Worlds champion, the substitute helped fulfil his role as the support for FPX. The team won 3 series matches, despite Crisp’s absence from the team.
Aside from Crisp, Nuguri was also another player that was benched for a while. In his place, Xiaolaohu was temporarily promoted to the LPL roster and was the starting top laner for the team. Just like Crisp, Xiaolaohu was able to carry the weight Nuguri had left for him. After a while, Nuguri returned to the roster and looked to perform once again at the level many fans expected him to.
Currently, FPX stands in second place, despite having the same score as LNG. Above them is Edward Gaming, who have had quite the performance, as well as a long winning streak. FPX has yet to face EDG in the regular season but is set to go up against them as the final match of the season. With FPX Crisp coming back to the roster, the team has a shot at coming first heading into playoffs.
