Ryan ‘freakazoid’ Abadir has announced that he will retire from playing professional CS:GO. He looks to transition to Valorant, Riot’s recently released shooter. The move is one of many in the NA region.
The move is hardly a surprise, as freakazoid and his teammates had been teamless for a couple of months. EUnited decided earlier this year to terminate their contracts. They stuck together under the name Swole Patrol and tried to find a new organization to represent, but in recent weeks, the lineup started falling apart. Victor ‘food’ Wong and Jordan ‘zellsis’ Montemurro both transitioned to Valorant.
Players switching to Valorant has heavily impacted the North-American scene. Braxton ‘swag’ Pierce was the first player to make the transition, but he has been followed by the likes of Hunter ‘sick’ Mims and Tyler ‘tenZ’ Ngo.
Freakazoid found the most success under the banner of Cloud9, reaching the finals of ESL Pro League and ESWC. But he has also represented orgs like Ghost, Echo Fox, and lastly eUnited. Before going pro in CS: GO, he had a relatively successful CS: Source career.
