G2 Confirm the Acquisition of NiKo From FaZe Clan

Updated:

It was finally confirmed today by the Berlin-based organisation that the Bosnian super-star Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač has been transferred from FaZe Clan over to G2 after weeks of speculation and reports signaling the move becoming a reality in the near future.

NiKo will join his cousin Nemanja ‘huNter’ Kovač and finally put an end to the sequence of French rosters fielded by G2, giving place to an international mix of Bosnian, Slovenian and French talents.

The Kovač name became known to the Counter-Strike folklore in 2016, with NiKo starting a long campaign of great results representing Mousesports, after years developing on Serbian organisation iNation. From there, he would be a common appearance on top CS player rankings.

In 2017, FaZe Clan snatched him up to replace Philip ‘aizy Aistrup with mixed results ever since, with the most famous loss occurring in the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 Grand-Finals up against Cloud9, clawing back into the final decider map from a 15-11 deficit and securing the first and only Major to date won by the North American region.

NiKo and NiKo’s cousin will join forces on G2

From there on, the trail was even harder for FaZe Clan, as countless roster moves wouldn’t translate to any results. Around the same time, G2 would try to bring new life to their Counter-Strike roster from the scraps of their former ‘French super-team’ by adding two new faces to a French core.

With both teams finding no success on 2020, outside of a surprising IEM New York Europe 2020 title for FaZe Clan, it became clear that a big move was on the horizon for both parties.

While it is still unclear who will be moved to the bench on the side of G2, early reports move to François ‘AmaNEk’ Delaunay being the one slotted after losing leadership duties to Nemanja ‘nexa’ Isaković. On the side of FaZe, this might mean the return of Olof ‘Olofmeister’ Kajbjer to the big stage.

We will know for sure as both sides will mark their debut on BLAST Premier Fall Series, with FaZe Clan playing on this Thursday and G2 starting next week, on Monday.
