The Leviathan Axe is Kratos’ primary weapon in God of War and, for good reason, you’ll be using it a fair bit. It deals primarily with Frost Damage, with a whole host of abilities that open combat up for a number of hard-hitting combos.

What’s even better is Kratos can throw it and call it back, like how Thor uses Mjolnir! If anything, it’s just a lot of fun to use. But, you can also upgrade it and make this mighty weapon even stronger.

Below, we’ve listed all the locations where you’ll be able to get your hands on Frozen Flame in God of War.

Frozen Flame 1 – Meeting Brok on the River Pass Bridge

Not too long into the story, you’ll encounter Brok. He’s a blue-skinned dwarf who you’ll find yourself crossing paths with fairly often. When you first meet him, he’ll be on a bridge in the River Pass.

After you help him with his horse trouble, he’ll open up his shop on the other side of the ravine and upgrade your Leviathan Axe as reward for your efforts.

Frozen Flame 2 – Ascend the Mountain From the Foothills

A little after this, you’ll bump into Sindri. Brok’s brother. You’ll then need to begin ascending the Mountain by making your way through the Foothills area.

At the top of this area you’ll need to defeat a Revenant and continue past it to an opening that seems almost too suspicious.

There is a door in this open area which you’ll need to approach to trigger a boss fight with a Troll. Defeat them and you’ll get another Frozen Flame.

Frozen Flame 3 – Reach The Mine Within The Mountain

When you enter the Mountain, it isn’t long until you find an enormous opening that is the making of the main Mine Chamber. This is where you’ll find the elevator that you’ll need to take to reach the summit.

Again, you’ll need to trigger the Troll boss fight in this area. Once you’ve defeated him, you’ll be able to get another Frozen Flame.]

Frozen Flame 4 – During the Quest ” The Magic Chisel”

During the quest “The Magic Chisel”, Kratos is after a chunk of Thamur’s chisel in order to open a magically sealed door. Valkyrie, God of War‘s toughest enemies, are behind these doors. However, they aren’t all put in front of you through the main storyline, so this quest is vital for defeating the Valkyries.

As you progress through this quest, you’ll have to make it through a boss fight part of the way through. Beat this and you’ll be able to get your hands on the next Frozen Flame.

Frozen Flame 5 – The Mists of Nilfheim

The final Frozen Flame, and upgrade for the Leviathan Axe, can only be acquired after you’ve finished the main story. This is because you can actually buy it from Sindri’s shop on Nilfheim.

In order to purchase this, you’ll need a Chilling Mist of Nilfheim. This can be found in a Legendary Chest in the centre of the Nilfheim maze. Once you’ve got this, you can use it to get the final Frozen Flame and fully upgrade the Leviathan Axe.

Upgrading the Leviathan Axe is a vital part of maximising your damage output with Kratos. Although the final Frozen Flame does come after you beat the main story, God of War is still full of additional boss fights where this will be more-than valuable.
