Gotham Knights, the next game set within the Batman universe of characters, is delayed to 2022, Warner Bros. Games Montreal announced on Friday.
The developer made the announcement by posting a statement onto the game’s official Twitter account. The statement reads “Gotham Knights will now launch worldwide in 2022. We are giving the game more time to deliver the best possible experience for players. Thank you to our amazing fans for your tremendous support of Gotham Knights. We look forward to showcasing more of the game in the coming months.”
Besides that, no other information was given regarding the delay.
Little information is known about Gotham Knights in general. What is known is that it is an action-adventure, open-world game set in Gotham City. Instead of playing as Batman, players can swap between controlling Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood in a Batman-less take on the city.
In this game’s universe, both Batman and Police Commissioner Jim Gordon died, leading to an increased amount of lawlessness in the city. Controlling one of the four heroes, players have to explore Gotham City and take the city back from criminals. The villains that have been revealed so far include Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls, but more have been teased by the developer.
The game will also have a two-player co-op, allowing people to team up with a friend to control two of the four heroes. The duo can explore Gotham City, fight bad guys, and complete missions together.
While Gotham Knights may appear to take place in the Arkham universe, due to Batman dying at the end of Batman: Arkham Knight and him being dead in this game, that speculation was shot down by the developers; this game is set within its own universe.
Gotham Knights was first revealed during the DC FanDome event on August 22, 2020, in which an extended gameplay trailer was released. With Gotham Knights delayed to 2022, it is still set to come out on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
