On the 5th day of MSI 2021, the group stage of Group B came to a conclusion. And at the end of it all, it was MAD Lions and PSG Talon who came out on top.
MAD Lions secure first place
Coming into the last days of their group stage, MAD Lions were 3-0, and many thought they would go 6-0. After winning a clean match against supposedly their only competition in PSG Talon, the thought seemed reasonable.
In their first match against the Istanbul Wildcats, the game was extremely close for the most part. But with MAD Lions finding early advantages, it seemed it would have been another win for the LEC representatives.
In their last match, it was the game to determine who would come out on top in their group. Both teams had a 4-1 score, and were looking to get another win on it. Notably, PSG Talon were seeking revenge after their loss against MAD on the first day of MSI.
With another close game between both teams, it looked like it could be anybody’s game. Neither found significant advantages for the first half, barring MAD securing three drakes early on.
In the end, it was MAD Lions who closed out the game after winning most of the teamfights.
Do or die matches for Pain and the Wildcats
During the final day of Group B, there were two do or die matches for two different teams: Pain Gaming and Wildcats. Pain Gaming needed a win over MAD Lions to keep their dream alive. Wildcats needed to come out on top in their match against PSG Talon.
It didn’t end well for either team. MAD Lions put the pain in Pain Gaming, knocking them out of rumble contention.
On the other hand, despite finding some good teamfights, it was PSG who came out on top over the Wildcats.
With both teams handed a loss, the group stage for Group B of MSI 2021 came to a conclusion. MAD Lions and PSG Talon had secured their spots in the rumble stage. Looking ahead, many are excited to who from Group C will join the rumble stage.
