On the 6th day of MSI 2021, Group C came to a conclusion. The last two teams for the rumble seed determined after 4 days of matches among each other. Worlds 2020 champions Damwon KIA locked in first place, but the road was not as easy in the second half.
Gods can bleed, but not fall
Many expected the current Worlds Champions to sweep the group cleanly, with their only notable opponent being Cloud9. With a 3-0 in the first half, it seemed those expectations would be met. However, the NA representatives had other plans for Damwon KIA.
The match between Cloud9 and DK was close for the most part. Eventually, DK started finding advantages against their opposition and were looking to close out the game with a win.
Despite a promising performance, Cloud9 came out on top of many team fights. Notably, Blaber put on a performance worthy of being called LCS MVP.
In their next match against Gillette Infinity, it was less close compared to their game against Cloud9. Despite that, Infinity was looking to make DK work for it. Impressively, Infinity midlaner Cody managed to steal the baron from the Worlds champions.
Sadly, the baron steal was not enough, and DWG KIA came out on top. With that win, the LCK representatives locked in their slot in the rumble stage and eliminated the LATAM representatives.
In their final game in the group stage, DK was playing to come out as the top team in groups. The picks even got interesting, with Showmaker on Yasuo, and Canyon on Diana.
Unlike their first game against each other, DFM couldn’t find any significant advantages, Despite some good team fights, DK proved to be too much for the LJL representatives.
Cloud9 claw it back from a 1-2 start
Heading into MSI 2021, fans were confident that Cloud9 would make it out of groups. However, a 1-2 scoreline was not the start fans were expecting. It was clear there was competition, and Cloud9 had to work to get out of groups.
What made fans overjoyed was they pulled off what they couldn’t on the first day of MSI. As mentioned above, Cloud9 closed out the rematch against DK with a victory over the current Worlds champions. It seems Perkz lived up to his tweet of wanting to defend his MSI trophy.
Not only that, but the LCS champions went 3-0 in the second round robin. Cloud9 secured their spot in the rumble stage with a win over Detonation FocusMe. Meanwhile, the team closed out the group stage with a win over Gillette Infinity.
With the day over, Group C came to a conclusion, and MSI 2021 groups ended.. Looking ahead to the rumble, fans are eager to know who will come out on top, and advance to knock-outs.
