The first thing you have to do in GTA is to buy yourself a weapon. No one needs to know what for. And with time you will buy more weapons. More weapons – more organizational nightmare and in GTA it is not very obvious how to manage your weaponry. So here’s a guide for you on how to change your weapons in GTA 5 on pc.
Table of Contents
Buying Weapons
Before using weapons you need to buy them. The default place to buy weaponry in both GTA 5 and GTA: Online would be the Ammunation store.
Ammunation offers a variety of firearms, utility gadgets, and body armor. Note that some of the items are only available in GTA: Online.
This is also where you can purchase upgrades for your already owned guns. For a small price, you can install an extended mag, a scope, or change the tint of the weapon.
There are a few more places to get weapons from (exclusive to GTA: Online). For example, the workshop in the Terrorbyte offers you a good stock of weapons to buy on the go. And within the Bunker or the MOC (Mobile Operations Center), you can get the MK2 version of your weapon.
After buying a weapon you do not have to equip it in any way. It will be automatically added to your loadout.
How to Change Your Weapon Type?
By scrolling your mouse you will open the quick weapon wheel. Keep scrolling and you will be able to switch a weapon type. There are nine of them in total: Unarmed, Melee, Shotgun, Heavy Weapon, Special Weapon, Pistol, SMG, Assault Rifle, and Sniper Rifle.
To open the full weapon wheel hold “Tab”. It has a bit different controls but it can be handier than the quick one.
Another way to change the weapon type is by pressing keys 1-9 on your keyboard. The default keybindings are:
- 1 – Unarmed
- 2 – Melee
- 3 – Shotgun
- 4 – Heavy Weapon
- 5 – Special Weapon
- 6 – Pistol
- 7 – SMG
- 8 – Assault Rifle
- 9 -Sniper Rifle
How to Change a Weapon of the Same Type?
But what if you have multiple weapons of the same type? For example, you bought a Desert Eagle and an AP Pistol both of which are pistols and technically go in the same slot.
You may not notice but when you select a certain weapon type there is a counter below. It shows the number of weapons of the selected type. In the case showed in the image below, there are five pistols.
To switch between them you will have to open the weapon wheel via “Tab”. While holding “Tab” you can select the weapon type by pointing your cursor and scroll through the weapons of the same type via mouse wheel.
Changing the Keybinds
All of the keybinds mentioned in the guide can be viewed and changed if you feel like it.
To find these keybinds press “Esc” to open the menu. Then navigate to the “Settings” tab and then “Keybinds”. From all the keybind categories you are looking for the “Weapons Select”. It should be the fourth one from the top.
You can change the primary keybind or add the secondary. Last will basically add a second keybind for the same action in case you prefer using 2 keys depending on the situation.
Click on the keybind and GTA will offer you to change it. The game will also point out in case you picked the key that was already occupied. In that case, make sure that the affected bind is found and fixed.
Guns ‘n’ Ammo
The guns are loaded, preparations are done, it is time to make some noise. There are plenty of jobs and missions in GTA 5 and GTA: Online for you to test those weapons and compete with others to see who is the best.
But if your weapon is more for self-defense and you are looking for a more peaceful way to live, how about founding a Motorcycle Club? You can buy a few very not legal businesses to manage and make money from (GTA: Online only).
