After 8 years, the legendary multiplayer game – GTA Online will end its support for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This comes after the planned expansion and enhanced versions of the game, set to launch in the next-gen consoles.
An excerpt from the Rockstar Newswire states “As we continue to move forward with updates and support for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto Online — as well as prepare for this Fall’s launches of the new expanded and enhanced versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, including website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club, will officially be shutting down on December 16, 2021. In addition, Shark Cash Cards for GTA Online will no longer be sold for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions after September 15, 2021.”.
These consoles will still support the original GTA V story mode, however on December 16, players will no longer be able to play the Online version or access the stats tracking on Rockstar Club.
GTA Online has its own legacy in terms of gaming. Until now, it had access to platforms starting from PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 5, as well as the Xbox 360 to Xbox Series X|S. The game later joined the PC platform where it earned millions of players and till date manages to top the charts during updates and events. This news is emotional for the players who were able to get the game for the PS3 and Xbox 360 during launch, and specially to the players who have invested hours – having fun, making friends and finding an escape from reality.
