The Ultimate Modding Guide: Today, I am diving headfirst into the world of Grand Theft Auto modding from how to start modding in GTA, including all the downloads and links you need, through to the coolest-looking mods I have found!

It wouldn’t be an ultimate guide without a bit of knowledge about modding, so let’s start with what is modding? Well, here is a handy definition:
Modding, in the videogame world, is adding, altering, or purging content on a videogame, especially on the pc. Mods can be quests, items, houses for the player, towns, shops, factions, or altering technical stuff(scripts, textures, meshes).
Modding is becoming increasingly popular among players who desire creativity, complete freedom, and even godlike powers in the universe they choose to immerse themselves in, be it GTA, Skyrim, Garry’s Mod or any number of other titles. Typically, this modding is reserved for the PC players who have access to the necessary files. Let’s get started.
You’ll need this, take it with you
Jump onto Steam and get Grand Theft Auto installed. You will want a fresh copy to mod. This way, if anything goes wrong, you can still play on your “clean” copy without having to do a fresh install when you potentially break something. You’re about to mess with the game in ways it wasn’t meant to be messed with. Damage can happen. You’ve been warned. Anyway…
Before you start bending the laws of GTA’s game files to your will, you’re going to need a few bits and bobs. To make this as helpful as possible, let’s start with the foundation of modding in GTA and build up to the more adventurous as we go. Firstly, you will need to download Script Hook V.
Script Hook V AB Software Development is the starting point for modding in GTA. Take note that this will not work with GTA Online; its strictly for messing around and having a great laugh in singleplayer.
Hundreds of variables all in one download
Once your download is complete we need to take the Script Hook V files, specifically the “BIN” files, and carry a copy of those over to your main Steam GTA directory; if you are in the GTA directory with GTA5.exe then you are in the right place. Leave those Script Hook V BIN files there and restart Steam.
After this, you are ready to launch GTA with your first modifications for solo play! These variables you can now change include:
Each one with countless more options to edit and mess around with. Some of my favorites were to give my weapons “No Reload” and “Explosive Ammo“. These two together are devastatingly fun! Then chuck “Moon Gravity” on for some wacky gameplay! Beyond this, there are hundreds of things you can do. I recommend you install and just go nuts for hours!
One little disclaimer—keep Script Hook V up to date. Otherwise, you’ll find your game time spoiled by the following error:
Time to up your modding game
Now that you have the basics down, you can take it to the next level with more unique and increasingly crazy modifications. There are a few ways you can do this. From what I have found, the easiest and quickest way by far to add almost whatever you can dream of would be with GTA5-Mods.com.
Again, little disclaimer here, anytime you download anything, be sure you go for one with the highest if not very high ratings.
Moving on, most of the MODS on GTA5-Mods.com have corresponding YouTube videos so you can see what you’re about to download in action before you waste your precious game time installing a dud.
Found what you want on GTA5-Mods.com? The next step is easy. Hit the big green download button and then bring over your freshly download .asi file, the mod file. Do exactly as you did before with Script Hook Vs BIN file: place it in the game’s Steam directory with GTA5.exe and you are ready to rock and roll!
Don’t be MODest
Being that this is The Ultimate Modding Guide, I wanted to share with you a couple of top mods I found on GTA5-Mods.com. Lets go:
Grand Theft Space
A full campaign with full-blown space exploration! That’s massive!
Its just beautiful. Download it, set the weather with Script Hook V to match a beautiful Miami sunset, and cruise down the golden coasts of Vespucci Beach.
Modding in GTA is so easy, way easier than I thought it would be. A quick install of this and that and before you know it you have found more weapons, vehicles, maps and campaigns than you ever knew could exist in one game!
Join the modding community and the only limit on your game play is whatever you can dream up, because 9 out of 10 times, there’s probably a mod for that!
I hope you enjoyed my write up on the modding potential of GTA. With even more content out there, I doubt this will be the last time I get deep under the skin of GTA. Make sure you stay tuned to Gamezo and follow us on our Twitter for all the latest!
