For those unfamiliar with the concept, bunny hopping is where players constantly jump without slowing down. On the contrary, bhop builds up momentum, and when performed correctly, becomes the fastest way to travel around the map.

Although it sounds relatively simple, the nifty trick can take quite a lot of time to master, so don’t be disheartened if you don’t get it right away. Furthermore, when you conquer bunny hopping, you’ll undoubtedly surprise your opponents by appearing in places earlier than they may expect, so it’s definitely worth learning.

Bunny hopping involves lots of jumping to the point of spamming your jump key. Because of that, there are a few things you can do to perform it more reliably.

Changing Keybinds

Using your spacebar to jump when bunny hopping isn’t exactly efficient. Instead, many players, tend to switch their jump keybindings to their scroll wheel. Doing so makes it significantly easier to time your jumps properly.

To change your keybinds, you can choose one of two methods. The simplest way is to use the in-game console. By default, the developer’s console is disabled so make sure you enable it in the settings before proceeding.

When enabled, enter one of the following commands into your console that will bind your jump key to either mouse scroll up or down:

  • Bind mwheelup +jump
  • Bind mwheeldown +jump

Alternatively, you can choose to add the lines above to the game’s autoexec file. To find this, you’ll need to locate your cfg folder inside the local CS:GO files. If you don’t already have a config file, you can simply create one.

Learning to Bunny Hop

To start learning how to bhop in CSGO, you need to master jumping without stuttering when you land. You can achieve that by pressing jump just before you land. Start practicing following these steps:

  • Start moving forward
  • Press the jump button
  • Press jump one more time, just before you land

Once you got the hang of that and can consistently jump, you should start adding strafe to your movement. Only when strafing you can use the main advantage of the bhop: an increased movement speed.

These are the steps to perform a bunny hop:

  1. Start moving forward
  2. Press the jump button
  3. Press a directional movement key while you’re in the air (A or D)
  4. Move your mouse in the same direction (if you press A move your mouse to the left. If D, then to the right)
  5. Press on jump one more time, just before you land
  6. Repeat the third step going the opposing way
  7. Carry on jumping from side to side while moving forwards

This technique is much more difficult to get the hang of. So give yourself some time to master it. If you want to up your practice, you can look for bhop CS:GO community servers.
